Entocort Ileal Release Budesonide, 3mg, Anyone tried?

Hello folks,

I was checking on availablility of Uceris in Canada, but was told that 3mg Entocort Ileal release is the closest one that they have. I wonder if anyone has tried this capsule, and if it worked.

I'm curious to know as well. I wasn't sure if Uceris is available in Canada, so I emailed my GI last week and she said she'd get back to me. I've never heard of this drug, but I'll have to ask my GI about it to see if I can get on it if as long as it's similar to Uceris.

It has the same medicine inside but Uceris is designed to release lower in the colon, where UC is. You might want to use the search feature to find old posts. It has been talked about before. In most cases it probably isn't going to release in a helpful area for UC'rs but I think some have said that it helped them. Unfortunately, it is a steroid and as such, it can't be taken long term so the hope (like prednisone) is that it can jump start a remission while you are on it and that the remission can be continued by maintenance meds after the steroid is removed. I wouldn't bet the farm on it but you can't really bet the farm on any UC treatment.

I've taken both Entocort and Uceris - I have Crohn's, but my disease is from the end of the terminal ileum down. Entocort? Did nothing (have tried it twice). Uceris? Works nearly as well as prednisone (and oddly, kicks in much faster - within 24 hours, as opposed to 4-5 days). I have a feeling the budesonide in Entocort was being released/absorbed too soon to do anything for me.

But - it never hurts to try.
