Entyvio allergic reaction?

I just finished my fourth Entyvio infusion an hour ago and had something weird happen. The Entyvio had just finished and the nurse had switched my IV to saline. I started getting a tickle in my throat and had some minor coughing. I finished the saline and left the infusion center and the cough got worse and worse, and I couldn't take a breath without coughing, so breathing was difficult. I also was feeling very hot and sweaty. I should have gone back into the infusion center but I was afraid they'd quarantine me or something so I drove to Walgreen's, got some liquid Benadryl, and chugged it in the parking lot. The coughing has since mostly subsided and I'm not sweating anymore, but I still can't take a deep breath without coughing.

So I would shrug this off as maybe allergies acting up on a warm fall day, but this same exact thing happened after my second infusion (minus the Benadryl in the parking lot). Did not happen after the first and third infusions. Anyone else have anything weird happen like this? They do not pre-medicate me at the infusion center like they do with Remicade. Does anyone get pre-medicated for Entvyio? I don't think it's typically done.

You definitely need to bring this up with them. In fact I would call and let them know right now. Next time I would take the benydryl before the infusion instead of waiting until after.

5.1 ENTYVIO Infusion-Related Reactions and Hypersensitivity Reactions

In UC Trials I and II and CD Trials I and III, hypersensitivity reactions occurred including a case of anaphylaxis (one out of 1434 patients [0.07%]) [see Adverse Reactions (6.1)]. Allergic reactions including dyspnea, bronchospasm, urticaria, flushing, rash, and increased blood pressure and heart rate have also been observed. The majority were mild to moderate in severity as assessed by the investigator. Experience with other biologic medications suggests that hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylaxis to ENTYVIO may vary in their time of onset from during infusion or immediately post-infusion to occurring up to several hours post-infusion.

If anaphylaxis or other serious allergic reactions occur, discontinue administration of ENTYVIO immediately and initiate appropriate treatment (e.g., epinephrine and antihistamines)."

Sounds like your reaction is known as Dyspnea or Bronchospasm. Dyspnea: a shortness of breath or breathlessness is the feeling or feelings associated with impaired breathing. Bronchospasm is a condition where the muscles around the air passages in the lung go into spasm which makes it hard to breathe out and causes wheezing. In the event that it is bad enough of a reaction, yes, they might discontinue the medication for your safety. Definitely make sure you are observed the next time for a doctor to assess...

My GI spoke with the infusion center after I talked with him, and the infusion center called me yesterday. They all agree it was a type of allergic reaction, similar to what they often see with Remicade. So for the next infusion they will treat it like Remicade. I will start taking Claritin 3 days before the infusion, and I will be monitored more carefully. So, more blood pressure and temp readings during the infusion, and stay there for observation at least an hour after it's done. My GI is also considering giving me IV steroids right before the infusion. My next Entyvio is in 8 weeks, so hopefully all that will keep me safe and I can continue taking the drug!

Hi - I hate to resurrect this thread but I found it via search. I had a similar reaction to my first entyvio infusion except it's just the cough and tickle at the back of the throat; not a closed throat or trouble breathing. Just this little "hurm" in the back.

I'll tell my GI when the weekends over if its still there but has anyone had the same symptom and been ok with entyvio. I'm having good results so far from just the first and would hate to have to drop it. Did it just happen with the first few? Did the Benadryl help? And did you stop the Benadryl when you moved to 8 week?
