I recently embarked on a thirty day challenge...like a diet....about
16 days ago...basically eat only fruit veggies and meat...I was diagnosed about
nine years ago but since starting meds...never had any bad flairs or blood...recently have had bad stomach issues and some blood...My question is...have any of you had problems eating fruit? I kind of feel like I have been eating too much fruit and it is causing problems....had oatmeal this morning...trying to change my plan....
open to suggestions...Thank you!
PS I had a colonoscopy this summer and everything looked great!

Ditto soy. I'd go back to how you were eating before.
Are you still on meds? I remember a discussion with you not too long ago that some new GI had declared you didn't have UC and said you could go off meds.

Possibles.
Excess fructose,antioxidants,prebiotics/FOS,bacteria population shift, some interaction with meds,
pesticides, some other bacteria on the fruit or veggie.
Lots more I guess.

I would definitely go back to what was working before, no matter what it is. Fruits bother many of us. Many UC'rs are also low on the digestive enzyme DAO, which helps metabolize excess dietary histamines. Fruits can be high in histamines, the riper the fruit, the more histmaines it has.

I agree with everyone here, too much of anything is a bad thing, also raw veggies can be rough on a gut too when takin to much in excess... oh how I miss you salads, one day soon one day soon...

negative, too scared, tried eating a little raw tomato and later that night was pretty uncomfortable/little blood so I think its still a big no go at the moment :(

just so you know ct, tomato and blood have a few very similar characteristics - they are both RED !

Thank you all! I'm laying off the produce for now unless it's cooked. Yes I stayed on my meds and am going back to my dr in Chicago. Thanks!

Sadly it could very well be the nature of IBD, even though the first thought is to blame changes you've made in diet/lifestyle the truth is many that are in remission and don't change a thing can still end up flaring again because that is the nature of the IBD beast...even for those that take their meds religiously and closely watch their diet they too do get re-occuring flares because the disease is always truly in charge even though we like to think we are, we play a partial role in taking our meds/naturals and diet.
But I agree with others that suggest you cut back on the fruit/go back to the diet you were eating while you were feeling well...hope you manage to get it all under control again, it's very tricky when you're working so hard against an "evil demon" like IBD.

I always try to link up the flare to something I did or ate, but in reality, I think it's just the nature of the beast. Periods of remission and periods of flare. Maybe it was the diet but maybe it wasn't. Really there isn't any way to tell. I guess you could try going to a different diet and see if you can get things back into remission. I hope you can! Maybe you should have blood work to see whether you're having increased inflammatory markers?

That easy. You have UC which is a chronic relapsing condition with no medication, diet or supplement that will change that.
I eat a low residue diet when I have a flare and it reduces suffering. My vegetables are spinach(even raw) and green beans. Fruit is bananas and apple sauce. Mutant skinless chicken breast and fish. White rice, white and sweet potatoes, winter squash, noodles and some white bread. Yogurt.
Totally unsuccessful trying to pinpoint what I did or ate that caused a flare, I have been doing great lately and I drank lots of wine every day, ate tons of tomatoes and raw vegetables, lots of fish and meat...wait the same thing I ate and drank last summer when I had a flare. I did add chia seed to my granola..that must be it. Seriously, I try to eat a overall healthy diet and i do eat lots of yogurt and fermented vegetables. Being a food phob stresses me out and I actually like kale, broccoli and stinky fish. Like berries, squash and pinto beans.
