Hey guys,
I've posted a couple times before and always feel kind of bad because I don't really have any knowledge or advice for anyone else in return due to my relative inexperience. However I have a couple of questions if someone wouldn't mind indulging me.
I had a flexible sigmoidoscopy last week and there was some "mild erythema" in the rectum, so I'm talking proctitis here. Biopsies have been taken and I am (nervously) awaiting results to find out if I have a disease. Not really sure what to think at the moment, my head is a bit all over the place mot having had a proper diagnosis yet.
Anyway, my first question is, is it normal that since my prep (moviprep) and flexi sig I have had a worsening of symptoms? Common sense might suggest that drinking an irritant and having a procedure while tissue is inflamed might have some consequences, but I just wasn't sure whether I should be concerned or just let it go.
What complicates matters is that I also have a fissure, so I'm not sure if the increase in blood is from that or from the proctitis. The blood appears to be around the stool and when I wipe, along with our old friend mucous. Is there a way to differentiate? Because I can't tell if my fissure is healed or not. And it certainly doesn't help that the stool tends to be dense and hard as opposed to the loose motions that the majority of people get.
The last thing is, I have been taking acidophilus, not a huge dose but twice a day. It can help with diarrhoea so I hear, but does anyone know if it can help soften stools any?
Apologies if my post is a little muddled, I'm just looking for some reassurance/advice from those who have more experience! Esp because I won't get access to any treatment for at least another week or so.
Thank so much!

I felt much worse for about
two weeks after my scope. So it makes sense that you could have the same issues. If they took biopsies, that can also cause increased bleeding. I can't help with a fissure since I have no experience but i imagine that it will also be "bothered" by the scope. Hope you feel better soon. Did your doctor give you any meds?

Thanks for your reply, no I haven't had any treatment ever for this. I've been in the diagnostic machine for most of this year and never had any medication or supplements. The only thing I've been given is a bulk laxative but to be honest all that seems to do is make me go to the bathroom much more often, not a huge difference consistency-wise. Tends to be little and often. Can't wait to get some kind of treatment but have to wait for biopsy results to come back

You can use miralax to soften your stool. Also drink a lot of water and stay active.
I hope you get some action from the DRs soon.

Thanks I'll ask my doctor about
that when I go to get my results, don't really want to take anything extra just now until I find out. I'm in the UK so there'll no doubt be an equivalent

What causes frequent little stools (formed) with proctitis

I don't know the exact physiology but I would venture a guess at this kind of constipation being caused by either:
Abnormal colon function - the colon's job being to absorb water and form stool. Perhaps the inflammation alters normal performance and can cause either diarrhoea or constipation depending on where the inflamed tissue is
Or!
Maybe it is some form of reverse peristalsis. This frequently happens in fully healthy bodies where stool is essentially in the colon for too long so too much water is absorbed and it becomes drier and harder to pass.
Like I said these are just my stabs in the dark, there is probably some much more educated person who can help! Either way if you're experiencing constipation it's important to try to make dietry or other changes to correct it and help your body to heal. It seems strange for me to call this "constipation" considering that you go.frequently, but I refer to the consistency of the stool rather than the amount
