Has anyone tried this before? I've tried Immodium, and I know people on here use that with no issues, but it worries me that it says right on the label "do NOT use if you have Colitis". I've used Immodium in the past and it didn't do anything for me anyways, I felt it made me a little worse. I have some Lomotil handy, and have been going to the bathroom 20+ times a day. Was hoping to use it at night so I could maybe sleep for 5 hours straight for a change.

I have no experience with Lomotil either but the main reason we should stay away from anti-diarrhea meds is that it can promote toxic mega colon. But those warnings are primarily for people that use the meds in high doses or frequently.

It won't hurt to try it once or twice and see what happens.

Used it for 4 years or so while liiving in Atlanta. Lomitil got me through my last 4 years of school. It's the equivalent of a stronger immodium. You will get a dry mouth when using, and if you take 2 it will make you a little loopy for short time (30 min or so).
I ran out of the script
once and figured out about
3 of the immodium was close to 1 lomitil minus some of the side effects.
I did ALOT of traveling with the lomitil. I would pop in 2 couple hours before plane flights, car trips, exams, parties..... etc and do just fine.
Enjoy.

I had an annual physical last week and my GP wrote the lomotil script
for me. It worked the first night but I still get up several times each night. Its not like it was during the flare where I used to have to sprint to the bathroom, I just wake up and need to waltz in there.
The fact that it does not phase me makes me wonder about
my diet and if there is something in it that is still causing some inflammation. No blood since taking sulfasalazine but this is probably how it goes when you do not use prednisone to get out of a flare like I used to.

I gave it a try last night. Says on the bottle to take 1-2 pills, but I only took half to try out. Seemed to help a bit, I went a couple less times than normal. I'm going to try it again tomorrow night will a full pill and see what that does. Really want to be careful with this and pinpoint if it's having any negative effects.
As for my long term plan, I'm currently in a study. I'm taking a drug very similar to Vedolizumab, I'm just waiting for it to kick in. I was on the low dose of 75mg for 8 weeks, and I was bumped up to the therapeutic dose just last week which was 225mg. They told me that 225mg should be the working dose. So far it seems like I'm going to the bathroom slightly more, but it's more formed and less urgency. Also, my hemoglobin has been between 65-98 over the past 2 years (managed by blood/iron transfusions), but my last blood work showed my hemoglobin went up to 116, all by itself! I'm really hoping that's signs of the drug working, I'd just like the bathroom trips to slow down. Can anyone relate with me on that one? Think it's doing something?

awesome you're seeing some positive signs - me, i would take it slow on the lomotil - if you continue to improve each nite, then you're good - if not, then try increasing - imo, there's no reason to use more than you need -

Yes I use lomotil now. Maximum dose is 8 pills a day. I take 4-6 depending how bad my diarrhea is. Imodium stopped working for me completely. Lomotil is an amazing medicine

I've been using Lomotil for the last couple months now trying to control my diarrhea while I got my Entyvio going. My doc had me take two pills but it really didn't help me much. I didn't have any side effects and it definitely didn't slow down my runs.
