Change in 6-mp brands

So,
I started 6-mp along with Uceris (which was a god send-just as effective as pred, but no side effects!!) back in march. I was doing great and weened off of uceris after a month and have been flare up free since then! Woo!
But last week I got my 6-mp prescription filled and it was a different brand. I didn't think much of it and started taking it. Now I think I'm about to be in a flare up again :( after about 5 days of taking the new brand I began having symptoms again..granted we did have thanksgiving but I never stuck to any sort of diet before so I don't know if that caused it or not.
Could the change in 6-mp brands be different enough to not be effective and cause a flare?
I'm so upset because I felt so good since March. Any insight on what to do before it gets worse?

I am about to get 6mp very soon from my doc but been researching a lot. My doc also mentioned that uceris was also something I may consider but he didn't recommend as of yet. He said to just keep on the rowasa for 3 months with the 6mp when I do actually start it.

I was going to ask you why you stopped the Uceris after only a month? I understand it is recommended to take for a full 3 months to make sure the 6mp has time load up per say and start working. This is info that came straight from my doctor.

I'm afraid your doctor is mistaken. Uceris efficacy is limited to 8 weeks (from the manufacturer site). I don't think there is any data beyond that time frame.

Yes, your right as I just looked back at my doctors note. 2 months for uceris.

I do not think the change of generic manufacture can be showing a result in only 5 days - the stuff takes months to work, and would likely take weeks (or longer) for a change to show adverse results.

No thats quite alright twiggs! It may have been a little longer than a month, but I know I was not on it for 3 months. I want to say 8 weeks max. My symptoms practically disappeared a week into taking Uceris when the ONLY medicine that worked for me before was Pred, which I had terrible side effects from. I would recommend Uceris to anyone because it helped me so much, without any side effects.

DBwithUC thats what I was kind of dreading to hear. I was hoping that it was the change in medicine and I could simply go back to the old brand and be symptom free. I was not expecting a flare up at all since I felt so good prior.

I am in college and finals week is the next two weeks, plus with the holidays coming, I thought maybe the extra stress might have triggered a flare as well.

I'm hoping it goes away soon or I can just take another dose of Uceris to maybe put me back in remission..

Uceris is prescribed for periods longer than 8 weeks. 8 weeks was the length of the study that led to it's approval, so that is why people think that. Now that Uceris has been out for a while and doctors have some experience with it, they are prescribing it for longer periods. I took it for several months while the 6MP was building up in my system.
I agree with DB that it would take longer than 5 days for the 6MP to get out of your system after taking it for months. And as to the 6MP brand, I think I am taking a generic - no clue what brand it is.

I knew it was a different brand because it was packaged in a box with the "pop out" packages inside, where as the other brand was simply package in the typical orange bottle with white lid. the pills looked different as well.

I thought that 5 days might not have been long enough, but it was the only notable change when I began to flare up.

I just wanted to get some advice before this turns into a full blown problem.
I guess Ulcerative colitis doesn't need a reason to flare, it just does...Its so upsetting how something can work so well and then just stop randomly :(
