Really true, zengrrl. I have been in a great remission for several years now, but fell out of it in November. I had been noticing some mucous here and there but blew it off. Then I had a tiny bit of blood on the paper. Then wham! Full blown gastroparesis and reflux coinciding with more mucous and blood in my stool.
Got myself a month's worth of Canasa, used it daily for a week, then randomly (3x/week) for a couple of weeks and now all is well.
I tried a chewable antacid during all this and it did nothing. I considered getting a pack of prevacid (my go-to ppi) but opted for Canasa instead. I think it's pretty well documented on this forum that proctitis and gastritis/reflux/upper GI issues go hand-in-hand for some people.
I'm pretty much lactose free these days. I'll snack on a bit of cheese here and there, and I use 1/2 & 1/2 in my morning tea. Sometimes these choices leave me with a bit of heartburn but it goes away quickly. That is nothing compared to the misery I was in a month ago.
