Just refilled my Asacol with my new insurance and it's $131 for 30 days worth. Ouch. Is there a generic available?

That is a fairly cheap price for the Asacol HD.

You have to get from out of country to get a generic formulation. Or you could try different 5-asa like Balsalazide, which has a US generic.

If your ins covers Lialda, you can get $120 towards co-pay from manufacturer.

Hello. I just ordered a generic asacol from Canada. I am in the USA and they do not have a generic here. Canada does not go through insurance. I paid about 350.00 for a three month supply.

Either Balsalazide or sulfasalizine are your only two oral generic 5ASA options in the us, otherwise it's generics abroad. Read up on patient assistance programs in the resources thread at the top of this forum. Many patient copay programs make sure you pay no more than $50 a month in copay for your medication, which can help considerably.

I used the lialda ( an oral meslamine like asacol, apriso, etc) patient assistance card for a few years, worked great. My GI office had the cards, but you can order them by mail as well. Show the card to your pharmacy before they ring up the copay. Afterwards, the card is in there computer and automatically is used. Here's the text from their website:
Most insured patients pay no more than $10 for their monthly prescription,* with a maximum savings of $120/monthly prescription (a yearly savings of up to $1,440).

The cards are renewed/reissued annually. Maybe the form hasn't been updated to say 2015 yet. There should be a toll free number on the website, call and ask if you're worried.

Lialda mailed my 2015 renewal card to me. I had to activate it online.

There is no program for Asacol HD.

I did find a card for Asacol HD bu googling and went to the pharmacy with it today. The co-pay before the card was $131 but the card lowered it to $30. She said it's good for a year and on my account now. I am so thankful!

Hi - I have the same card and had the same thing happen last year. They 'renew' the card to the end of this year, so your card is good until 12/31/15 even though it says 14. I called and asked about mine as well. You can do up to 12 refills per card and next year if they do another program use that program again up to another 12 times. You can submit for reimbursement if you have already paid out of pocket. There is a form you can fill out and send in they told me about when I called Asacol. Best of luck on savings. I have spent $1000 this year already on my first 90 day supply refill, unfortunately my insurance I have to meet my deductible before it drops to the $150 copay amount for 90 days, and I work for the health insurance company and have elected the best plan available to me.

The GOOD news is this year there is an anticipated generic around November. The patent expired and Zydus is working on a generic. Fingers crossed that will be available to us end of this year or early next year.

Thanks! I was able to get it filled today at the discount price. The pharmacy had to call the # on the card but it worked and I am set for 12 months. That is great news @ the generic coming though!!
