unhappy j-pouch

On rare occasion someone will come on here who is unhappy with their surgery. I maybe remember two in the past six years I've been on here.

On the opposite side... there are a ton of people very happy with their results.

I've talked to a lot of j pouchers. The vast majority are very happy with their results. I have come across a few very unhappy people with their surgery result. And they were people who had a crohns dx after the surgery. I'm very happy with mine....it put my life back to normal.

Another good site to visit is jpouch.org. There aren't too many people here on this site who have a j pouch. Just a handful. You can even set up this question as a poll in the poll forum there.

95 percent of jpouch patients are happy with the outcome of their surgery. So odds are very good you'll like yours as much. Hang in there. Good luck,

And you have to remember, you have the loop ileo, which people say is way more difficult to manage than the perm. So if the loop is not that bad, the perm would be a breeze for you! I think you will be okay. It sounds like you're in good spirits, just scared. I get the same fears whenever I think about surgery but like others have mentioned, the results are usually very good and the most important factor in a good result is the surgeon's experience. I have seen a very small number of unhappy people over the years. Definitely seen way more happy j-pouchers. To be honest, many happy pouchers don't come here often because they are out living life.

Absolutely no regrets ... I am 18 months out from takedown. Had one minor case of pouchitis - it sucked for a couple of days, but was quickly put to rest by antibiotics. I don't even have to think about it most of the time ... I eat anything I want, go anywhere, no longer think about where a bathroom might be along the way!
