I went to mayo on my own now my GI dumped me

Yep he said I will have to find another gi cuz I went for a second opinion. I hope I find someone that believe in mayo clinic s opinion and will take me without doing another scope, I just had it done 4 days ago. Any suggestions?

What a cruel, corrupt and disgusting doctor who preys on helpless patients. He wants you only for your continued business.

what was mayo's opinion? you should be able to get copies of the biopsies/colonoscopy from the office assuming he has staff

finding a new gi shouldn't be hard at all, I try to read reviews online first

Oh yeah I have all the paperwork and I faxed it over and he had his secretary call and said I better find a new GI. So now I'm trying to go back to an old, old, GI and asked her kindly, by letter, to continue my car. I left her because she was threatening surgery, so I switched. Then went on to mayo who said I don 't need it. It chrohns colitis

I guess I'm better off, cuz I went to see him about feeling a lump at my butt and leakage and he said...take your medication and comes to find out it was a fistula from a colon rectal doc.

I agree with the others, if he's got that kind of an immature attitude towards patients that have to deal with GI issues, his personality alone makes him a crapty GI and not worth wasting YOUR time on. He might (I use that term loosely) be good at doctoring but his attitude clearly gets in the way of his expertise (that is if he actually has any) he sounds very insecure and clearly doesn't have his patients best interest at heart. Good riddance is right!

I would leave negative reviews about that GI on any website that I could find. Like healthgrades.com, Google plus, yelp, FB and others. Let the World know.

Like everyone else said, you're better off without this gi. Hopefully you'll find a good doc. Maybe the Mayo Clinic doc can give you a referral of a good local doc. I'd also tell the Mayo doc about him, people should know about this.

What a horrible doctor. Just got back from my gi and he suggested going to the mayo clinic. I told him I had already made an appointment for next month. He said he hoped it was with doctor height which it is.

What a jerk. They should feel confident enough with themselves to be okay with a second opinion. I always think it is hard enough to deal with a chronic illness let alone obnoxious Doctors and annoying insurance companies. I would skewer that Dr. on internet reviews. At least you can warn others that he is immature and not confident enough to withstand a second opinion. Sorry you have to go through this. Boo to this guy.

Wow! How nasty! My GI encourages second opinions all the time!! He would never make you feel uncomfortable for asking another doctor-it's your health!

You should be celebrating wiping your hands of that waste of your life. My GI doc has recommended either Mayo or Chicago Hospital (not sure the name) if I wanted a second opinion. Sometimes I'm sure he has wondered about me, but he's professional and overall supportive.

If it makes you feel more at ease, I recently had to switch my primary care physician due to lack of effort by the one I was seeing. I went to another interim primary care three times before it was clear she thought she was above me, and didn't listen to me either. So, I was recommended by someone else to a new lady... and she's great. My advice: if you or anyone around you (ask them!) knows a really good doctor of any sort, ask them for referrals of good GI docs. Good honest docs usually know others in different specialties.

I'm glad you took the initiative to go to Mayo and take care of yourself. Kudos to you.

Funny story with a similar experience:

I went to a GI when I first started having symptoms of UC. He did just about every test there was and declared nothing was wrong with me and it was all in my head (despite the bloody loose stools and 20 lb. weight loss). Like you I went for a second opinion (Cleveland Clinic) and he dumped me. Fast forward 4 months to my first ever nasty flare. I end up in the hospital for 6 days with 30+ bloody bowel movements/day and they still don't know whats wrong with me (they think it is some sort of infection). I tell them I suspect Chrohns or UC and beg for pred (I had never taken it before). They don't suspect IBD because of all the negative tests I had months earlier. On day 5 of my hospital stay they give in and schedule me for a colonoscopy. Day 6 I wake up after the procedure still partially crunk off of the anesthesia and who is standing there in my hospital room...the doctor who dumped me (he was the on-call gastro for that hospital). He then informs me I have UC and starts a pred drip. According to my wife in my buzzed state I gave the guy a tongue lashing (I don't remember much) for completely dropping the ball on my diagnosis and for dropping me. Guess what? That guy has been my gastro ever since that day in the hospital. He is great, now, and I think a lot of it is due to his guilt...lol.

I had a doctor tell me that I called for a stupid reason (couldn't swallow the pills) and my jaw just dropped and I hung up. I called the office and told them to cancel all my appointments (including a scheduled colonoscopy) with him.

Generally when you go for a 2nd opinion at a place like Mayo, they will expect you to use the results of their testing to work with your usual doctor for further treatment once you return home, so it's not like your original GI would lose any business as the result of you going to Mayo. Sounds like a doc with a massive ego, and good riddance -- hope you find a better one.

Or, the doc felt like you went behind his back because you didn't trust him. A lot of docs don't like this, but most won't drop a patient because of it.

It's better to tell your doc in advance that you're going to get a second opinion, even though this may be uncomfortable.

Hi Mark, just found out chrohns colitis last week at Mayo Clinic. My reoccurring fissure and fistula , told to me by a rectal doc who did my surgery and now Mayo Clinic. Thanks all for your support, geez as much as we go through, you think you could count on your doctor. Your blessed if you get a good one who cares.
