I'm well educated on this topic. But don't take my word just search the web yourself. You don't have to worry about
vitamin D if you eat healthy and unless you stay indoors (as in never go out) you get enough sun walking back and forth during the day from a car or train stop et al.
People used to avoid the sun and tanning prior to the 1960's when tanning became popular so that's one reason why there's been such an increase in skin cancer. We've also learned more about
it and the causes (diagnosing the reasons).
A lot of testing has been done on sun screens and basically it show to keep babies under 6 months out of the sun as opposed to using sun screen. People with light eyes, fair skin and freckles (and moles) are at significantly higher risk of skin cancer and if you get burned 5 times your risk of developing melanoma is doubled.
Here's an article from 2006
SEE HERE which is old but still relevant. Sun screen lasts about
3 years. Most degrade in the sun so you should reapply every 2 hours and SPF 30 is not double 15 (it's not linear). SPF 30 is adequate.
You need protection from UVA and UVB (broad spectrum).
New moles (esp raised or changed) need to be examined and get a professional exam at least once a year.
I'm having basil cell spot cut off now at 49 and it's not fun. I had to do a chemical peel and that really hurt and sucked the big one.
I have someone do my lawn work (or most of it now) and I focus on shade work and really protect my skin with long sleeve shirts, wide brim had, etc. when outside. Also prednisone greatly increases our chances for cataracts which really sucks so wear sun glasses at all times in the day.
It's very critical and my kids and wife (even though she has skin damage) skill think it's better to be tan.
