Hello all

I have been self managing my UC for years but my latest GI has prescribed Asacol again for me due to today's scope. I am self employed and my plan has a high deductible. I used to mail order 90 day supplies cheaply but that company has been folded into a coverage provider that Is not the one my plan is with. I am a CareFirst subscriber and I am looking for the best options for getting the RX other than my local pharmacy which was $500 for a 30 day supply.

You might also check the preferred brand of your insurance and consider if it is as good or better than Asacol HD. My Caremark prefers Lialda, and I do well on it.

Hello jack. I also have a high deductible insurance plan. I live in the USA , and for the last 4 months I have been getting my asacol in Canada. I get the generic ( no generic in USA ) it costs me about 350.00 for about a 3 month supply. Also I order the rowasa enemas in Canada also. It still is about 150.00 a month, but cheaper than in the USA.

Surprised not much response from here.

Anyway, If I buy mail order Asacol it will in fact be cheaper to maintain but will not count against my deductible. After consulting with my provider, Dr, and pharmacist my Rx was switched to a $10 copay medicine. Balsalazide. I was pleasantly surprised at the help I received upon asking. Asacol worked well for me in the past but gave me extremely oily skin. Therefore I am open to trying this other medicine for a savings of $505 per month!

Interestingly "Maintenance" prescriptions are supposed to be 100% covered with no copay but Asacol is considered a Non-Forumlary or Premium drug in my plan.

Lialda was the first alternative suggest but it turned out to be $150 MORE per month on my plan.

From the resources thread at the top of this forum: Apriso, Asacol, Lialda, Pentasa, Salofalk, Delzicol, Colazal (generic), or Sulfasalazine (generic). The generics are likely cheaper. The brand named ones have patient assistance programs (see resources thread).

Some order generics meslamine from Canada.
