Hello everyone,
I wanted to share what happened to me and see if anyone has any thoughts regarding it.
My whole life, I NEVER had a stomach bug. I was one of the lucky few, I never had days of throwing up or awfulness like that. Until I reached age 23. My boyfriend got a horrible stomach bug, that made him vomit and have diarrhea. And then he passed it to me.
Oddly enough, I had diarrhea for almost a week straight but NEVER threw up. Then I had about a week where I felt back to normal again.
Almost immediately after that, I started having my colitis symptoms. Blood started appearing, mucous, urgency, etc. Making 10-15 trips to the bathroom a day. I had bloodwork and a stool test done: no parasites, no bacterial infections, no c. diff, etc.
This went on for a few months before I finally accepted that something was very wrong with me and went to see a GI doctor. A few weeks later, and sure enough, I got my colonoscopy and was diagnosed with proctosigmoiditis.
So I guess I'm sitting here wondering if that stomach bug, the one my boyfriend likely gave me, simply rocked my colon so hard that it was never able to recover its mucous lining again. And now I'll have UC forever because of it. It bums me out sometimes when I think about it, like if only I had stayed away from my boyfriend during that time, maybe things would have been different?
Did anyone else get their UC triggered by the stomach flu?
