Are UC people prone to diabetes?

I've never heard that, but oral steroids do elevate blood sugar and can eventually cause type II diabetes.

I would assume it would be from chronic corticosteroid use as Judy2 suggested. Anyhow, if you are interested in mitigating the risk, then focus on adding more fat and fiber to your diet. For example, healthy fats like butter have shown to reduce the glycemic load with meals.

Ok thanks! Last night I didn't use a steriod enema for the first time in so long and today no blood! Yay! Means I can cut back on that too.

I think I have been eating too much candy from Easter and my headaches are back! With a vengeance!

i sometimes have an impression that stupid doctors associate every existing disease with uc, so whatever you check on the Internet will surely be uc related. It might be interesting to find out which diseases are not triggered by uc, but i'm sure it would soon turn out that even the ebola virus has its roots in ibd :)

the only link i know is between steroids increasing your blood sugar. my aunt has diabetes and was in the hospital for pneumonia. the idiot doctors put her on high doses of iv steroids and she was in a sugar coma!

i've also read that l-glutamine which is often taken in colitis may significantly increase blood sugar

DB with UC ive just noticed with delay that you have quoted me haha im really SO SORRY that i dont meet your high and refined intellectual standards shakehead I attribute this deficiency on my part to UC as well lol

It's so weird, it does seem like everything is related to UC ! :-)

Yes day 2 no blood, but fingers crossed.

It's weird to that when I eat sugar it triggers headaches so I thought maybe diabetes! My bro got adult onset.

With my luck I just wouldn't be surprised!!!!

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease. People always say if you have one autoimmune disease, you're likely to get another one. It was true in my case. UC first then adult onset type 1 diabetes after my last pregnancy. No family history of either. If you find yourself feeling very thirsty especially at night, go get a glucose test. I also had shooting nerve pain in my arms.

I was going to suggest a link wtih T1D at least, and chronic inflammation is also associated with T2D so I wouldnt be surprised if there is a link there as well. I mean there is a STRONG link between Celiac and T1D, so UC and diabetes isint a stretch

I am always thirsty at night!!!! Extremely! I thought it was the hydrocort! Can I get a glucose test from cvs?
