Vedolizumab in Canada

Ive been looking around the Health Canada website for a while now but I cant find any mention of Vedolizumab anywhere. Does anyone know if Health Canada is even looking into approving the drug yet?

I googled Vedolizumab and Health Canada...didn't find anything. Does Health Canada normally approve drugs around the same time as the US FDA? For example, is Simponi approved for UC in Canada. I believe it was approved in July/August 2013 by the FDA?

Im not sure to be completely honest. I figured there would be a bit of delay, since Health Canada typically just follows the FDAs lead anyway, but as you said, there isint even an indication that an application for approval has been submitted, so I have no idea what the status is. Kinda frustrating for obvious reasons

It's suppose to be approved in about 8 months.

I read on here a while back that it could have been fall of this year, and it was on the news about a year ago. I spoke with my GI about it, and a research Doc from my hospital and they both said it'll most likely be available late fall/early 2015.

Where abouts in Canada are you? There is another drug thats in the trial phase that works exactly like Vedolizumab, they're them in Hamilton and I'm near by. Going in for a screening tomorrow.

Wow, thats a strange coincidence. Im going for a screening in Hamilton (McMaster) tomorrow for the anti-MAdCAM drug trial as well.

Somedude: I actually don't know much about it. I was just told some info briefly over the phone. I did a quick google search and this was the first thing that came up. Not sure if it's what you're talking about.

Its the one I posted there. Its called PF-00547659; or more simply its an anti-MAdCAM antibody. Vedolizumab targets the protein that MAdCAM binds to, while this other drug targets MAdCAM. In that sense, they work by inhibiting the same thing

I'm in Toronto, Canada and my dr had mentioned putting me in a study about 6 weeks ago when I was flaring . Now that I am back to normal ( on 1.5 pills of prednisone and tapering ) he hasn't mentioned the study . I wonder if it Wouid be worth being in this trial .

UC Pancolitis -21 years - 47 year old female
Current meds- 1.5 pill prednisone , 10 asacol

@rbartolo - There are plenty of websites out there that have listings for registered clinical trials. This one is one of the best however: https://clinicaltrials.gov/. Alternatively, you can also search out research MDs in your area and contact them for more information. They are sure to know about trials going on in the area and may even be running some themselves!

Havent been on here in AGES!!!
Just left my GI's office. This drug is now approved in Canada and I might be put on it.
Have to stay on Remicade for now to give it bit more time while we wait for this new drug.
I have had 4 Remicade infusions so far and not in remission yet.
Going to reseach this new med right now.
Sounds promising.

My GI spoke to Health Canada. It will be approved in May, there is a DIN. I was told to apply for Trillium drug benefits in the mean time.

I saw my doctor (gastroenterologist) on Friday the 22nd and he said it had been approved just last week.

In case anyone comes across this page in the future, the drug was actually approved back in January, but it had to be prepared for commercialization, and was officially made available on May 7th. The first set of infusions should be occurring in the next couple weeks, if they havent started already.

Anyone live in or around Vancouver that is currently planning on or in the process of receiving their Entyvio soon? I spoke to my new GI last week and he said it wasn't approved in Canada yet, not sure if he was just not aware, or in fact it is not. The timing is close so it's possible he just didn't receive the "memo" yet.
