First, I want to thank The answer for he shared his precious finding with us. I've refractory crohn's and it is active. I live in the Mediterranean part of the world. After reading The answer and others about nopal water I got the nopal pads 3 days ago. Because of where I live I can find the cactus very easily. I made the water and have been drinking it for 2 days. It works very fast. The result is amazing. Disease activity is reduced massively (by CDAI score). Other than nopal water I take salofalk granules and enema daily, cannabutter daily. I know it is early to have a robust idea with 2 days of experience but I wanted to report it. I will keep drinking the nopal water.

I am starting today, I picked my pad and made the juice yesterday. I plan on drinking about 2 ounces a day. How much do you drink and when?


Do you strain it after you let it sit all night?

I haven't decided on how much to drink yet. I drink 1 or 2 glass of nopal water. I will adjust it in time.

For the second question, I don't understand what you mean, I'm sorry. I'm not a native speaker. Can you ask in a different way or explain the question?

I am so happy people are having such great results. We have had some other interesting posts in the past where people seemed to have good results, for example, spinach sunflower diet and black cherry concentrate. Seems like different things come and go.. I tried nopal and i didn't notice any improvement.

When you make the juice you leave the pieces of cactus in the water overnight, then do you take them out? Strain it? Thank you!

notsosicklygirl, are you sure you made it right? The water should be thick, gel like.

DMC2011 I don't take them out, they stay in the water so water becomes thicker, more concentrated over time.

Did everyone taking Nopal have diarrhea beforehand? I keep on thinking about trying it but I have't had diarrhea in years. My only problem is solid thin stools 2-4 times per day and I know that Nopal can cause constipation so I'm afraid that I'm not in the right category to use Nopal.

DMC2011, I just took the pieces of cactus out. The nopal water was too thick. I diluted it with some clean water.

Yes i made it exactly as it was described. It did nothing beneficial for my symptoms. it didn't harm anything either.

Oh boy here we go with that "nopal" word again. hahaha

Here in Arizona it's called Prickly Pear Cactus and has always been called Prickly Pear Cactus!

You can buy things like Prickly Pear Jelly, Prickly Pear Candy, etc. Heck, you can walk 10 feet out in the desert and eat some. We used to eat it all the time for fun as a "survival food" growing up.

That "nopal" word sure ain't from Arizona, that's fer sure! :)

Gary -- I didn't have diarrhea when I started drinking nopal, but stools were pretty soft and sometimes only semi-formed

"Nopal" or "nopales" is the Mexican name for prickly pear cactus. The store where I buy mine calls them "nopales"

I am still drinking 12 oz in the AM and 8 oz in the PM. Have only seen faint traces of blood 3 times since early March. Last time was over 2 weeks ago. Generally go twice a day, but sometimes it's 1 time, occasionally 3. I feel best at twice -- once in AM and once in PM. When I don't go in the PM I get a lot of gas and fart a lot lol. I have a scope next Monday and then I'll know what is really going on inside. When I get the gas I have some pain (until I fart!), but other than that not really any other symptoms. Since I am not 100% regular I suspect there may be a bit of lingering inflammation. Will know how much next week. Hoping it's very minor because if it's not, I think I will be going on Humira. I have a higher risk of colon cancer because my mother had it so I know I can't leave inflammation go unchecked. But if it's very minor I am willing to take the risk and continue with the nopal & Asacol.

For anyone trying nopal -- don't get discouraged if you have some bad days after some good days. Look at week to week improvement rather than day to day. I had a lot of bad days and up until the beginning of March I saw blood several times a week. Never had D or C after I started drinking it -- just varying amounts of stool and frequency.

As for inflammation and colon cancer, you can add rectal mesalazine as a chemopreventative and anti inflammatory if you have left sided inflammation.

Not sure if it's the DAO or the nopal, but today was my best day in 3 months, having started nopal one week ago.

I started Nopal on Apr 1st. I notice a little difference and decided to continue simply because it wasn't hurting....unfortunately my little Mexican store hasn't got an order for 2 weeks and I haven't found a replacement:( It's too bad as I'd really love to continue even though to that point I had only noticed minor changes.

This is my 3rd day, still soft, but doing well. It has other good properties si I will drink the pitcher. It's a little thick but I chug it down. I drink about 3 to 4 ounces a night.

I am hoping it will help me cut back on steriod enemas. If I don't use them I see blood. Also thinking curcumin might be good idea?

Hoping 6mp kicks in soon, but it's been less than 2 months.

DMC -- you probably aren't drinking enough to make a difference. The folks who are only drinking a few ounces per day are drinking commercial nopal water that has other stuff in it besides just the cactus pads. I drink 20 oz/day. You should probably be drinking at least 8-12 oz/day of the homemade water if you used the same recipe I do -- 1 pad per 2 qts water. And you could probably drink even more without it being a problem. 1 pad weighs about 4 oz. A 2 qt pitcher of water lasts me 3-4 days (I usually stretch it to 4 days by adding more water). So I am drinking the juice from just 1 oz of the pads each day -- diluted with water. With the amount you are drinking you are only getting a very small fraction of an ounce of the actual cactus juice.

Also, the water shouldn't be very thick unless you are making it differently (more nopal/less water). My water a little thicker than plain water and when I pour it out of the pitcher there is a gel-like string from the last few drops . But it's never real thick and is always very easy to drink. I actually find it kind of refreshing and never chug it.
