Time for remicade?

Well I wasn't in remission but I was functional. But now suddenly I am going back into the urgency and accidents and bleeding. I wonder if it's time for stronger meds. Just crapped in these cute leggings my mom gave me yesterday, in front of my fiancée and it wAs a juicy one. Sorry tmi. So great! This disease really blows. I had given up milk and cheese, and the bleeding seemed to subside, but now it's back for vengeance lol. I guess I'll always be sick no matter what it seems.

Might as well eat cheese if you're going to crap yourself, that's what i always say. It definitely sounds like it's time for you to move on to something else. You've given Humira months, and if you've seen some results, remicade may work even better. One of the problems with Huimra is that it's a standard dose, they can't really adjust. I guess there are probably people who do 2 pens but regardless, remicade is weight based and there are more options. It has the highest success rate of all the biologics. The only thing i worry is whether you will have response considering it sounds like your response to Humira has been pretty low. I could have had a few good days on simponi and led myself to believe it was working, but the reality is that it wasn't, i just had a few good days.

I tried simponi and saw none or minimal result, probably none if i am honest with myself. I went to remicade and had no response with that either. Doubled the dose with no result. It was the worst. The reality is, if tnf blockers don't work for you, they don't work for you. Not taking remicade isn't going to change anything, it will just prolong your flare up. I accept that i am not a responder and I've moved on. Those are options that just do not work for me. They work for 60%, the other 40 of us have less options :(

Humira is made with a human protein while Remi with a mouse protein, those are the main differences between the 2 but I know many docs will try each if a patient isn't having any success with one or the other...plus there are more new biologics out there aren't there? So hopefully the Remi will work for you Chrissy...keeping fingers and toes crossed for ya!

I feel like I always wanted to keep remicade in my back pocket for that huge "what if". The thing about having something in your pocket, is that, it's useless if it doesn't work. I could have kept it an option forever and it wouldn't have changed my personal make up (or my UC - whatever makes me a non-responder). At least now I know where things stand. I am not happy about it but it's reality. I would definitely try Remicade before Entyvio, it sounds like you had some response to Humira so that's a great sign. Entyvio is a good option too but i don't think the success rate is as high as it is with Remicade.

Hopefully your GI will be on board with trying everything under the sun with you before surgery becomes the hot topic with him...I hope the next med, whatever it may be, does the trick for you Chrissy!!

Thanks pb- yeah he doesn't want to go to surgery until I'm way sick but that's scary lol. So he wants to try things first for sure

Pardon if this was already mentioned but Mercaptopurine is another option.

Just make sure if you do, your doc monitors your liver function. Mine liver did not respond well but I had no pain and functioning quickly returned to normal once I got off of it.
