Rowasa vs. SF Rowasa

I first used Rowasa during my last flare. It made things worse so I tried the SF version and it helped (slowly and in combo with other meds). I've been taking it ever since and am currently in remission but am having a devil of a time finding a pharmacy that can fill the SF prescription (we moved to a new, rural, town). I seem to be slowly wiping out the pharmacy supply in my town and surrounding towns and they are all telling me they don't know when their distributor will restock them (the chain drug stores don't carry the SF version). Mail order through insurance doesn't carry the SF version either. I'm 8 months pregnant so this isn't exactly the time to be messing with my meds! I was able to find a pharmacy to fill 3 months worth so I'll be OK until the baby is born. My question is if, once the baby is born, I should give the regular Rowasa a try again? Maybe I was extra sensitive to it because I tried it while flaring? I just don't want to spiral into a flare by messing with my meds or going without. And I'm already a little nervous since my worst flare ever happened after my first child was born. Thoughts on this? I'm not due to see my GI until August, a month after my baby is born. I wish there were a more available SF alternative but one doesn't seem to exist.

Thanks for responding. Walgreens and CVS told me their distributors don't carry the SF version. I wonder if there's a way to petition the distributor to carry it...

If you try the regular Rowasa and I'm not saying you should, one dose and you would know if your intolerant.

I agree with Gary, maybe look into Canada pharmacies.

Thanks. My Drs office suggested ordering from Canada but I'd have to see if insurance would cover it. I'll discuss it with the nurse because that might be a good option.
Walmart didn't have the SF version. What I'm hoping is that each pharmacy will get it back in stock by the time I need it again. I hate moving the prescription back and forth but I see no other choice. Never had this problem when I lived in Chicago!

I was having a terrible time getting a local pharmacy to fill it and I live in an urban area. The reason the chain pharmacies don't stock it is because it is a very expensive drug and most insurance companies have low reimbursement rates. I was able to get it through express scripts (they are a total pain but would fill the drug for me) since my dr had them put in my file that I am allergic to sulfites. At first, they sent me the regular version and I had to negotiate a return. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the end of your pregnancy!
