For the last few months, I've been throwing up directly in the middle of when I'm due Simponi injections. Literally on the 14 day mark. Put it down to a side effect and didn't think much of it, but it's been happening more often in the last month, twice in the last week. Always the same pattern; extreme nausea will cause me to wake up in the middle of the night, and throw up. Sometimes just a little, sometimes my whole dinner. I'll still feel queasy in the morning, but then it goes. It comes with no other symptoms, and there's no correlation between it happening, and any specific food.
It's not anywhere near daily, so I don't know whether to be concerned about
it. I mentioned it to my nurse today, and she said it's not a common side effect from Simponi, so told me to see my GP. Don't know whether it's worth it though, UC-wise I'm doing pretty good and wouldn't want to stop Simponi just for this. Any thoughts appreciated!

Vomiting is just one more symptom of UC. I had it. It means you are still not in remission.

I used to have vomiting and nausea while in a flare. Not daily but several times a week.

I"ve never been on Simponi, but I did have similar vomiting while taking Aza after I had been on it for awhile. It started as kind of slow burn nausea which grew over time until just rolling over in bed would send me running to vomit.
Also for the last two years I have been episode of night time vomiting and nausea. GI thinks it is gastroparesis but we are working on figuring it all out and how it may tie in with UC (or possibly IBS).
Ah, I suppose your trouble could be caused by many things. My suggestions are probably long shots, but thought I would throw them out there. I hope you figure this out soon. Nausea and vomiting are the worst!

I was under the impression that throwing up wasn't common at all with UC, and was more of a Crohn's disease symptom.... In my two years with UC vomiting has never been a problem, even in my worst flares.

Hmmm ive never thrown up while on simponi but im not flaring. When im flaring, i have nausea and vomiting daily. Ive seen this with a ton of UC patients. I know aza can cause this in some people.

If you're worried about
vomiting as a possible side effect of simponi, then call your gastroenterologist and ask. It's most certainly not a common reaction I've heard of here.
I did some digging (simponi and vomiting) and ran across this:
Tell your doctor if you know or think you may be a carrier of hepatitis B virus or if you experience signs of hepatitis B infection, such as:
feel very tired
dark urine
skin or eyes look yellow
little or no appetite
vomiting
muscle aches
clay-colored bowel movements
fevers
chills
stomach discomfort
skin rash
Not sure if you need multiple symptoms, for hep b? I'm no expert. I'd ask just to eliminate it as a possible cause.

Thanks for the info! I've been vaccinated against Hep B so thankfully it's not that. Phew.
Perhaps it's just an aza thing, even though I've been on it for well over a year...

Vomiting is not a sign of Crohn's! Talk with your GI.

It can be? My friend who has it throws up all the time because her ulcers are in her stomach

I think anytime anyone has vomiting issues (especially increased) they should see their doc, better to be safe than sorry.

Never vomited, but wasn't a very vomit-prone person prior to UC either. If I started vomiting on top of all the other things I have to put up with, I'd be worried enough to call my GI doctor.
