I'm in a wedding party today and i still haven't decided if i want to drink or not... i haven't touched a drink since January (my first flare) the flare is under control and I'm pretty much back to normal.... would it bad to have a few drinks/ shots tonight? or am i just asking for trouble? being my first flare I'm not to sure what to do.

Alcohol use and uc are very individual. Some have an almost immediate, negative reaction to alcohol. Others, like me, see no affect at all with uc and alcohol.

Flares and alcohol are a definite no no, but you said you're out of it now.

People tend to drink excessively at celebrations, such as weddings, so be careful. Especially since it's a big unknown whether alcohol will bother you.

Since you're in remission, I'd say go for it. Just don't overdo it and maybe stick with vodka/soda or another low sugar drink. I can drink red wine just fine.

I may have 2 or 3 throughout the night hopefully i'll be safe with that.. I'm not looking to get plastered but just get the edge off and have a good time

I would also say go for it since you are in remission. I have drank a lot more than that on special occasions, and had nothing more than the usual headache the next day. Enjoy your day and don't stress over it!

Wine (white not red) actually makes my gut quieter with no morning after ill effects YMMV.
Vodka ditto. For me it's the mixers that cause problems.
Please don't drink and drive but have a good time otherwise.

Id recommend NOT doing it while out. Its always better to test these things while at home just in case. But as others have said, stay away from beer and maybe try wine or something like vodka. Those seem to sit better with people

Yeah. I have to agree with Marauder. If I were in your shoes I would have put it to the test first by having one or two drinks beforehand in a controlled environment and see what happened but it's too late for that now. Let us know what happens.

What medications are you on Leokorry? Generally alcohol can be hard on the colon but as with everything, it's individual to each. You might want to try a little bit then give yourself some time to see how your gut is feeling before you indulge in more but I'd keep it light to be on the safe side...it's hard at weddings but you can still enjoy it without getting too carried away (personally I'm not a fan of full out drunks lol) have a good time tonight!!

As everyone has already said, we seem to each have our own reactions to alcohol. I do not have an immediate reaction to alcohol, but it is cumulative. So if it were me, being in remission, I would definitely drink at this wedding with no worries whatsoever. But then I would be sure to abstain for at least a month if not two before having any alcohol again.

How did you go with the wedding party?

I'm ok with one or two drinks during a flare up but I can't drink more than a couple. I'm cautious about alcohol when on 6MP / azathioprine because I worry about how my liver will cope!
