Hello, I'm in a flare at the moment. I was starting to get better, but then I went away for a week to Wales, and I got ill again.
I have noticed a few times that I feel ill after eating tomatoes/tomato based things. The last couple of times it was tomato pasta sauce, and I have also felt pain after tomato soup (from a can), which had confused me as it is low fibre (fibre is my main trigger foodwise). Obviously I always avoid raw tomatoes, tomato skin and seeds anyway.
I read something the other day about solanine possibly causing problems with people with UC, and thought maybe that would make sense. It would also make sense because it says that potatoes also contain solanine, and I rarely eat potatoes just because I prefer pasta and rice etc.
I'm currently just eating solid food (soft noodles)with my steroids in the morning, then complan, water, cup-a-soup etc. for the rest of the day.
I do get frustrated with having to restrict veg etc. when I'm ill, although I can eat certain cooked ones when I am well.
I often think I'm going to get scurvy! lol!
Has anyone experienced problems with solanine?
Did you cut out tomatoes etc. altogether, or just during flares? Did they trigger flares?
Does anyone know if tomato cup-a-soup still contains solanine?
Thanks for any advice :)
