Personally I've only had luck with Cortifoam rectal meds.

I think they can all be helpful, depending on the flare, and the
location of the inflammation. I personally have never been one of the lucky ones who can come out of a flare up with rectal meds alone, but they can help the rectal area which is important. I used to have great luck with canasa but that was shortlived, mesalamine enemas seem like they were a lot of work and discomfort and very little result for me. Cortifoam seemed to keep things less severe but never got me to 100% - it is easy to retain and not uncomfortable.

Once the number of bms reduced significantly they were able to give me cortifoam and it helped quite a bit
But it was uncomfortable in the beginning and it did take a good few days for me to see any results
If you are having 15 bms a day there is almost no point as you won't be able to keep in much of the medicine and also they won't know how much of it you actually retained
People have posted about
succes with pentasa although I cannot vouch for it as I have never tried it myself

In my 26+ years, Salofalk (mesalamine) 4g enema is what I've used except for a steroid foam for a course of 2 weeks the first year after diagnosis (ordered by another doctor). They did work, but I went back to the mesalamine once I saw my own GI again.
I did try the 2g Salofalk for a short time during a maintenance stint...went back to the 4g.

Rowasa - if used nightly for 4 weeks straight - and cortifoam have helped.

Rowasa can be used much longer than 4 weeks. The butt rules regarding how it heals...so it pretty much determines the timing. I base that on my experience...not the written info.
All subjective. but 4 weeks is a good start at the very least.
Remember to taper to maintenance..not drop.

i found it was easier to retain the cortifoam after a shower, dont know why
just did
after using for a bit you should have no problem retaining as long as your BMs are not too frequent
its best to leave about
8 hours between each dose (as per my pharmacist)
