Woke up this morning with my third UTI in six months. Is the Lialda causing this. I am prone to uti anyways but worse now. If I can't take lialda is Humaria the only option. I think I'm in remission now, finally. I don't want to change MEDS. Anyone else have this?

I haven't, but I have also only had two UTI's in my entire life, one when I was 5 and one when I was 32. Do you drink unsweetened cranberry juice or have you tried baking soda in water when you first notice symptoms? Sorry you have to deal with these recurring UTI's.

I've been on Lialda for 8 years and only had 1. It's been a great drug for me. Hope you find the cause.

Is lialda the only medication? Also it's possible your first Uti never really went away and that's why it keeps coming back

Definitely check out as to why. Do you have an actual infection or do you have inflammation in your bladder?

ARe you drinking enough water?

One helpful hint from another member is to take D-mannose. Do a search on it for UTIs. Much better than cranberry juice from what I read.

If you do have an infection, make sure it's gone before stopping your meds. The doc should be doing regular checks.....as well, have her/him request a culture for what type of bacteria you actually do have.

Thank you. Yes I am pursuing this with my urologist. I drink a lot of water I had a follow up on the last one and it was gone but here I am again. It is being cultured and I will have a scope soon. They will check my bladder. Had cat scan in March and kidneys are fine. I don't want to get off Lialda but it is a side effect. I am even more reluctant to start humira but I may have to. Ill check mannose. Very frustrated

There are other medications you can try before going to humira
Have you looked into imuran or 6mp

Looking at Imuran and 6mp almost looks worse. I don't think he wants me on an immune suppressants since I am very prone to infections. I have a stat3 variant. Thanks for the suggestion. I will talk to him about it

Humira also messes with your immune system.
I think the medicine bonds to the tnf in your body to stop it from attacking yiurself. Someone can correct me if i am wrong.
This is the way anti- tnf medications work.
The risks associated with remicade/humira are similar to the risks associated with imuran

Yes, immunosuppressive medications (Imuran, 6mp, aza) and biologics (remicade, humira, simponi) increase your odds of getting infections such as UTIs, bronchitis, sinus, etc. That's because those medications lower your body's capability to fight infections and cause inflammation. Immunosuppressive medications (like Imuran) intentionally lower the amount of white blood cells in your body, they are the immune systems attack dog (the less you have the less inflammation you have). Biologics target an anti-inflammatory signaling protein within your body, know as tnf-alpha that says "send inflammation over here". By blocking tnf-alpha, you have less inflammation. Good for uc, bad for UTIs.

Any way you can reduce your odds of getting UTIs?

Hopefully my urologist might have ideas. Diagnosed in April and I've had two uti and one severe sinus infection so far. I go back to GI in October. Guess it'll be trial and error. Thanks for info

Thanks it looks interesting. I will keep it in mind. Maybe next time I get an infection. I am definitely tired of antibiotics. Concerned they will quit working and when I really need them they won't work
