What's the dose everyone takes when in a flare? My doc has me taking 4G's a day (2 pills in the AM, 2 pills in the PM). How long does it generally take to work?

How many milligrams are your capsules? As far as I know oral Pentasa only comes in 250 or 500 milligrams so if you were taking two 500 milligram capsules two times per day that would only total 2 grams per day, not 4. You should be taking 4 grams per day while flaring.

Yes, I said in the original post I'm taking 4G's per day (2 pills in the AM, 2 pills in the PM). They are 1G each. So I guess that's the correct dose! Any idea on how long they generally take to work? I was hoping to see some results in a week or so, so hard to be patient with these things!

Everyone is so different. The worse shape your colon is in the longer it takes to notice things. I would say that if you saw no difference in one month's time that that would indicate that it is not helping at all.

I have been taking 1 500mg tablet twice a day as a maintenance dose for several years but had a huge flare-up this August so was advised to take 2 tablets three times a day. Lesson learnt by me this summer is not to ignore those early signs of a flare-up or it will take longer to heal.
