Are protein bars safe for pts with UC?

I am underweight weighing around 128lbs and I am 6"2. I am trying to gain weight and try to eat more during the day. I was thinking of eating protein bars but not sure if it's safe for ppl who have UC. I am vegetarian so my diet contains very little protein. anyone out here has any experience with protein bars, and if so which brands are safest? Thanks

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but eating protein bars isn't going to drastically change your condition. Eat what helps you to get your weight up. Getting to a healthy weight is important to your overall health and eating the bars isn't going to make a difference in UC symptoms, so if they help you gain some much needed pounds, i say go for it.

The only protein bars that sit with me are the fermented bars made my Genuine Health. The fermented protein they make is also the only kind of protein powder that sits with me. I usually just eat half a bar at a time though, since there's 10 grams of fibre per bar. Vegan protein as well!

The ones with whey protein are animal product, so you wouldn't want them.

Soy protein can contain trace aluminum, hexane, nitrites and other things from the chemical isolating process. Certain people can have sensitivities to soy protein, causing digestive issue. The soy is also GMO if that means anything to you.

Also you better not have issue with hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, artificial sweeteners, etc.

Also protein won't help you gain weight, for that you need Carbs, why not something like Organic brown rice? It's cheap, has an excellent amino acid profile, high quality carbs, very high in Iron, and if boiled to a mush, is very easy to digest, without the processed garbage found in packaged "health food" products.

Also, if you eat brown rice cold you can reap the added benefit of resistant starch.

If you are starting Entyvio you will notice a difference in your ability to eat better and keep the food in your system
After 2 infusions I started to gain back some of my weight
Over the last 3 years I was holding at95 LBs I looked awful should weigh more than that
I have gained 15 LBs so far and hope to gain more

What worked best for me to gain weight was to make smoothies with bananas, almond butter and coconut oil, coconut milk and avocado daily. There are a few protein powders that tolerated well, nutribiotic makes an organic brown rice protein powder and a couple of hemp protein powders that I found were ok as well.
Honestly, I had to give up my vegan diet for a while to gain weight and I haven't gone back to it fully, I now wat dairy and eggs and even lean meat once a week.

I had my 1st infusion. Having 2nd next week. Havent seen any improvement yet. But i know it takes a while to see any improvement. Hoping for the best

There are better sources of protein out there for vegetarians. What about eggs, hard cheeses, beans, quinoa, milk, peanut butter, almond butter, tofu, etc? And pairing them with a complex carbohydrate?

You may want to meet with a nutritionist. I've found them to be very helpful in suggesting balanced vegetarian meals and snacks for myself, and for helping me make sure I get enough calories in a given day.
