Propofol made me higher than a kite

For those of you facing a colonoscopy you can be rest assured...things are very comfortable these days.

I happened to make things even easier by making my own "gatorade" which went really well.

I'm an old timer and the drugs used in the olden days didn't really work well for the procedure. I'm sure there are others with horror stories!

This new propofol is commonly used now, and wow. You basically just start getting very relaxed, very quickly, and then you're out! I even had a chat with the nurse about my fears of waking up, and my old time experiences and she said, oh, it's very different now.

The scariest part of course is when they wheel you back there with no drugs like a rat in a cage. They even start hooking you up, rolling you to your side, exposing your butt...and you're thinking...ummmm I'm still very alert here!!! But within a few minutes someone starts asking you questions and you immediately feel the warmth, relaxation kicking in...and then you are out!!!

Again, nothing like the olden days, and I'm very thankful for propofol!

Yep it is good stuff. That is all I have ever been given and I've never been worried about waking up. And usually when I wake up after the procedure, I'm very alert within just a few minutes and ready to head out of there.

I just had a scope in June and I think they gave me more then usual. Maybe I woke up but I'm not sure. I was soooo groggy the entire day. I sort of make a game of the knock out juice now. I've had many surgeries (not UC related). But when they say "Good night" I try to see how long I can count before boom OUT! I think one time I got to 5 lol But yea, the drugs are definitely better now a days.

So did they tell you how things were?

The last thing I remember is someone saying "I'm going to give you the sedation now." I doubt I'd be able to count to one before I was out. I wake up the same way - refreshed and alert, no stumbling through the day like I did on Versed.

Now if they could just come up with an easier prep...

I always look at the clock before I am out. This last time.....9:30am...I woke up at 9:37AM alert and happy

I cancelled one with new GI yesterday, don't like him and when I heard that I would be awake because I said I do not smoke MJ or have other non-UC problems I mentally checked out. They called to 'remind me' yesterday I called back to cancel.

Going back to the last gal who used Propofol as it was the coolest thing ever, I understand michael jackson using it to get to sleep, just should have paid the nurse and not adminsitered it himself.

Versed is the stuff that will make you feel like crud too afterwards or at least it does for me.

Reminds me of my first colonoscopy, i get whatever they gave me, i look at the clock in the room, it's 3:40PM Mar 19th, doc tells me to count to 5, i get to 4. I wake up in another room, look at the clock, it's 4:15PM..... wait a minute Mar 20th, ***!! just happened, it immediately woke me out of my drowsiness, the nurse asks am i ok, i can barely point to the clock and she goes "oh look the date is wrong", i calmed down after that but there was no drowsiness after it. That is an honest to god true story.

I'm wanting to be awake to watch the monitor but nicely medicated for the scope...I'd be ticked if I was knocked out..lol.

I love propofol! It's the only good thing about the scope!!
And my 6 year old daughter had and endoscopy yesterday (she was just diagnosed with Celiac's), and they used propofol and did great with it. Within a few minutes of waking up she was feeling great and back to her usual self.

Yeah. Before I was wheeled back one of the nurses was talking with me about Propofol and jokingly said, "Of course it's a good drug. Just look at Michael Jackson..he's still asleep!"

I have used Propofol only once (and really liked it), but otherwise I prefer to be awake so that I can watch the monitor. During my first colonoscopy, the guy used some kind of injection to relax my intestines and it didn't really hurt much, except the air. None of the folks here aware of that injection and I don't remember that med.
