Questions about Proctitis

I am 28, Male. So all this started a little over 2 years ago when I started to notice bright red blood on surface on my stools on occasion with mucus. I waited about two months after 1st seeing this to see if it was just what I was eating or maybe an internal hemorrhoid but thing persisted. I went to my general doctor and he did examine and felt nothing so he sent me to get a scan. They scan thought they might have found a mass but multiple doctors told me it very well could have been a piece of stool since I didn't cleanse before my scan. I was given a colonoscopy shortly after and told I was clean besides some minor internal hemorrhoids

Fast forward to April 2015. I started to get the same symptoms with occasional lower back pain, and sometimes they quick sharp pains in my rectum that would last 1-3 seconds at most. Again I waited 2 months to see if it would go away but it just got worse. I saw my general doctor and he gave me suppositories and told me to take fiber pills and revise my diet. he did blood work and everything was normal. 3 weeks of this and no positive change I saw my specialist again and he ordered a colonoscopy for safe keeping. In July I had my colonoscopy and after the procedure the doctor said I had colitis in the rectum but I should wait until the results came back and had me submit a stool test. Results came back and he said I did not have colitis of rectum just Proctitis since the biopsy game back negative and so did the stool tests. Also my blood work test me for STDs and game back negative. I asked him what could cause this and he said he didn't know. He put me on Canasa which helped a lot but recently I have been trying to ween off at the advice of my mother. But now when I don't take Canasa sometimes I get streaks on my stools.

So I have always been confused about this. I tested negative for colitis and negative for STDS but I have proctitits? Also, after 2 months of Canasa should the inflammation stop if it was just proctittis? I do notice I get blood on my stool when I don't take Canasa but also when I am not going right on schedule. Usually I wake up at 7:00am every morning and pass a stool and at 9:00am at work after coffee and breakfast I pass another. On the weekends when I am off sometimes I am not eating breakfast, having coffee, or don't pass a stool until 10:00-11:00. Could my weekend schedule be making me constipated thus irritating my rectum? Any advice or knowledge would be appreciated.

Proctitis isn't an infection unless it's determined as a cause of inflammation. Proctitis is inflammation of the rectum.

I'm assuming your doc took biopsies....if so, do you have a copy of the results?

I was dx with proctitis when I was 26 years old. It was treated and went away. Five years later I had problems again and the dx was UC. Proctitis is often the precursor to UC. So while you might not have UC today, that dx may change in the future.
