When you were working out were you ingesting any workout drinks? We have had a lot of (especially in their early 20's) people here who came down with UC shortly after starting this lifestyle. It is my belief it has something to do with these workout drinks in these individuals.
That is very interesting.
I played sports all through adolescence including wrestling from about
3rd grade until senior year of high school but at that age never got into workout drinks. Through my 20s I didn't work out at all outside of starting to play slow pitch softball around 25, which I still play. I never gained much weight or got overweight in my 20s but I did not have a good diet at all. After I turned 30, I started running. Nothing too crazy but 3 or 4 times a week, my longest runs I ever did were about
13 miles but typically just did between 4 and 7 miles. I kind of reasoned I could still eat garbage and drink all the time but if I ran I would be fine. I did this for about
3 years.
Anyways, December of 2013(age 33) I joined a gym and got a personal trainer to teach me how to lift properly. Now, my stomach had always had some sort of issues before this but nothing that really worried me. In January of 2014 I also quit smoking weed which I had smoked daily, for the most part, since I was 15, so about
18 years of that. I only mention this because I know a lot of cigarette smokers have reported getting UC after quitting, I never smoked cigarettes though.
After lifting for a few months I started eating a lot healthier and drinking a lot less. If I was going to spend all this time in the gym, I might as well eat the right stuff to maximize my work. I also started drinking protein shakes after workouts and creatine drinks before workouts. My mistake was buying these powders from Wal-Mart, which were basically garbage and full of crap. The creatine was like a fruit punch mixture and just full of sugar and who knows what else.
I started noticing lots of D around July/August of 2014. I thought at first it might be from the creatine powder as I had heard that stuff gives some people the runs. I cut it out along with trying to cut a few other things out like dairy for awhile, I was thinking it was a diet issuse and I could cure whatever my problem was myself. Eventually after about
2 months of D every day, I saw a doctor in October of 2014 which eventually led me to a GI and my colonoscopy/diagnosis on January 7th 2015.
I've always heard that sometimes when you get more active, these diseases that have been somewhat dormant can come out. I don't know if I would blame my UC on drinking those bad Wal-Mart bought powders but after reading a lot of info about
UC the last few months, I think that those drinks and the cessation of weed smoking could have brought out my UC. It was all just a lot of different changes to my body in a period of 6 months or so I guess.
