Switching from Apriso to Colazal

I've been on Apriso, with good success, and now I may change to Colazal. Insurance reasons.
Has anyone been on Colazal and what can you tell me about it.

Yep, I was on Apriso until I developed hair loss as a side effect. I am now in 9 Colazal/day (the max dose) and I've had no problems. It is not strong enough to work on its own, but I have very aggressive disease. That said, it definitely helps me.

Switched for same reason got a flare after 3 months on it. I was on asacol/Delzicol prior with no issues for 3 years. Different type of medication via release. Now have to take canasa along with Colazal. Flare only lasted few days but was on vacation at time so had to come home. Who knows.

I'm going to ask about Pentasa. It has mesalamine as does Apriso.
No fun taking Canasa....been there, done that, too!!
Prednisone always works....but, can't be long term!
We are taking a long trip this winter and I am fearful of a flare. I will take some prednisone with me. I am so sorry you had to come home while on your vacation.
Hope you're better now.
I'm seeing my gastro doctor in a few weeks. He wants me to do another colonoscopy.UGH!!!

Colazal has been a blessing for me; other oral 5-ASA meds gave me side effects so I would quit them after a while & flare again, ugh. FYI, its generic name is balsalazide disodium, but it breaks down to mesalamine within the colon. Be sure to drink plenty of water daily while taking it as it can be somewhat dehydrating. I cannot take Apriso because something among its secondary ingredients gives me an allergic reaction.
