I've had mild to moderate UC since around 1997. Back then the doctors recommended colonoscopies every 1-3 years. My current doctor is still old school--he wants a colonoscopy every 2 years, whether or not I'm showing symptoms. He takes 28-30 biopsies, and the colonoscopy always shows some inflammation even if I am not showing symptoms. Last year for the first time, he found two polyps (negative) and removed them. I am 54, and perhaps because of your younger age, you feel like you don't need to worry about
colorectal cancer (yet). But 7-8 years sounds like a long time in between. I would have been ecstatic if I only had to have a colonoscopy every 4-5 years!!
