I've been using 95% curcumin capsules (without pepper or bio-perine) for a couple months now with excellent results. Still playing around with capsules daily amounts plus trying out 95% powder in coco oil or boiling to get it dissolved (not in capsules) but it's been a winner for me. The bio-perine was not loved by my gut so gave that bottle to spouse.
My history with many supplements is very bad, gut disliked 90% of them. Diet was my savior and that took a long time to sort out and achieve remission.
Back to curcumin and IBS: I still had many food issues with IBS, specifically multiple BM's and many beloved foods were on the "out" list. UC was in remissionfinally with 3-4 BM's in the morning and then quiet all day/night unless a forbidden food/drink called my name then "hello IBS".
Since taking curcumin daily in 1500-3000 mg amount IBS issues have almost disappeared. Here's some of the foods/drinks I can now have that previously caused IBS: coffee (full caff), fruit! previously a big "no", ice cream (ditto), chocolate. I'm going to try shrimp and other seafood soon which has been out for a couple years. Gluten I may keep out because I actually like sticking to eating protein and veggies without pasta or bread and don't need the calories.
Also BM's are now lowered to 1-3 in the morning depending on what was eaten previous day and how much caffeine in the AM. When I started curcumin it actually worried me when BM # dropped so quickly, was afraid of constipation. I am now almost back to my "normal" BM which skewed to C in pre-UC days.
Please look up medical studies on curcumin (there are many) and decide if you want to try it. There are cautions for people on blood thinners, diabetes, bile duct disease and gallstones. Talk to your doctor and don't take curcumin if you have surgery. It's a natural product but that doesn't mean safe for everyone.
Wish I'd known about this 15 years ago but that's life.
Tonight am cooking chicken curry with turmeric. Curcumin is in turmeric in 2 to 6% amount, tasteless but bright yellow. Yummy.
