When do you go back to normal after colonoscopy?

At least your usual normal? Not normal for a person w/o UC? Mine was Mon. but I'm still feeling awful. Abdomen hurts more than usual and going to the bathroom more than the too many times I was going before. Is that normal? When does it it stop? Thanks!

It's going to mess with your symptoms some, with the scope, biopsies, and the prep. I'd say hopefully it'll clear up in another day or two. I'd recommend adding a good probiotic to help things settle down some.

I'd give it a try. When your system is upset like that, opportunistic bad bacteria can take root and reproduce in mass (things like cdiff). Probiotics are good bacteria.

For on going uc treatment, probiotics are generally a do no harm kinda thing, they either work or they don't for uc symptoms on an ongoing basis. I'm surprised your gastroenterologist is against them. A lot of people on hw use them. As an ongoing treatment they did nothing for me though ( I even tried vsl ds #3).

My scope in may this year made me feel crappy after. It showed remission but i felt like it messed me up for 1.5-2 months. It settled down again after that but my rectum was really bothering me from the prep.

It takes a few days due to all of the biopsies (28-30 for me) and the prep. Gassy pain and some blood are to be expected. However, after my last colonoscopy, I also had spotty bleeding from my Vagina afterwards for a few days. No chance of having my period--hysterectomy 20 years ago. My GI couldn't explain it. At least it went away on its own.

I can't believe your GI is against probiotics, either. I started taking them regularly several years ago after reading about them on this great site, way before they were as mainstream as they are today. They have worked wonders for me, keeping me out of any serious flares for years now. I haven't had to take Pred for at least four to five years now, and I believe that probiotics are the reason. I had to educate my GI on the use of probiotics at the time--sad, isn't it. Some GI's just don't want to embrace change, and their patients suffer for it.
