Having a colonoscopy and an endoscopy tomorrow, so doing prep today. Luckily my doc lets me do the senna plus mag citrate and I do not have to drink the gallon of slime.

I have determined that my gut does not like being empty...I feel it all the way through, not just like a rumbling hungry stomach. Empty bowel = unhappy bowel for me. I think I remember thinking this when I was having the flare that almost cost me my colon last year.

Anyway, very much looking forward to noon tomorrow when I should be coming out of anaesthesia and can get some food in my belly. They are actually putting me under general because last time it took 3x the standard dose of sedative to put me out. cry

Then Tuesday I will be driving 11 hours to get to family before the snow hits Wednesday.

Good luck! that's what I focus on too, what I get to eat after it's all over. Whatever it is, even a plain cracker, never tastes better than at that time.

Hope everything goes well. I like the mag citrate prep, it isn't tasty but it isn't a ton of fluid either. Safe driving, too!

When I come out of anesthesia I always feel so well rested. If that's the case for you too keep that in mind :-).

When I had my colonoscopy they gave me my phone a little too early and ended up tweeting I wanted a chocolate chip cookie. I wasn't really awake when I did that!

Procedures are done...doc said I have "sunburned" colon, but there were no ulcers or bleeding YAY! I woke up crying from the anesthesia...weird. That has never happened to me before. I may have to switch from Remicade to something else, depending on what is seen in the pathology. I feel pretty good except for the sore throat from the intubation tube and endoscope.

I complained to the doc about severe joint pain 7-10 days before the Remicade that goes away even before the infusion is over. I mean SEVERE. Such as I am hardly able to drive because I can't close my hands around the wheel, moving any part of my body causes pain, even in the jaw. He said to take NSAIDS. I told him that upon my initial dx of UC I was told to never take them again. What do you think of that?

Another question that came to mind is, since I have purged my entire GI tract, do I need to pay special attention to replenishing my flora, and if so, how? I forgot to ask the doc that one. I know I'm not sterile or anything but would like to encourage the good guys while beating down the bad ones as much as possible.

momto2boys: I used the clear grape mag citrate from CVS and it was actually GOOD! Like Pucker grape schnapps, which I haven't had in years. :)

I had lemon lime which tastes like bad Sprite, but I will look for grape next time! I would up the probiotics for a week if I were you. I doubled mine after my scope. I hope your reports all come back with good news. The joint pain sounds terrible, a lot like RA, do your joints swell? I have a co-worker with RA and UC.

I am anxious to get a look at my pathology report tomorrow, but my pathologist friend already texted me that "histology is MUCH improved"! Yay!

My fingers and knees do swell when I near the end of my Remicade interval. Looking forward to 12-11 for my next infusion.

Anyone know anything about taking NSAIDS? GI doc told me to in the event of joint pain...

What doc mentioned taking NSAIDS? Careful with them.
He could prescribe you a topical RX strength of Voltaren.

OMG how did you sunburn your colon, especially this time of year??
Have you had ANA testing to rule out RA?

My GI doc told me to take NSAIDs for joint pain. I told him that the doc who initially diagnosed me told me to NEVER TAKE THEM EVER AGAIN. According to current doc, that is outdated advice...not quite sure I'm ok with this.

He said he'd prescribe tramadol or some other non-narcotic pain reliever (IDK what the other one he mentioned was) because I don't do well with codeines and the like. Morphine straight works well, but I have to work and drive, so nope!

I have enteropathic arthritis, which appeared several years before the frank UC symptoms. When I was diagnosed with UC, my GI told me if it hadn't caused me any problems I could continue taking it. Since then, I have been on continual NSAID therapy - first Naproxyn, then changed to Mobic by my rheumy because he considered it to be the least likely to cause bleeding. I've seen several different GI's, and none of them have taken me off NSAIDS.

So far I've had no issues whatsoever from the NSAIDS. Other people will bleed after taking one Motrin. Just like everything else with this da(rn)ed disease, we're all different.
