Uceris Question

Hello, for those taking Uceris or similar drug, how long before you started seeing improvements?

I started Uceris almost 2 weeks ago after a colonoscopy, which showed mild crohns colitis. First of all my symptoms of D, blood, mucous got a bit worse after the procedure. And the uceris is not doing anything yet.

Also, if you are having a lot of BMs it may not work at all for you because it will get flushed out of your system before it has time to work. It's designed as a topical medication that is released when it reached the colon. If you are having more than around 5 BMs/day you might want to go ahead and call your dr now. The times I used it was just a mild flare.

Thank you for your responses. My symptoms have actually gotten worse not in the amount of BMs that is still about the same 2-4 depending on a day. The bleeding has gotten worse since the colonoscopy/uceris.

Tried calling the doc just to ask her if it's because of the colonoscopy 2 weeks ago or because of the negative effect of the meds. But was told to schedule appt. :(

Will start using Mesalamine again, even doc said it's not necessary. That's what started helping me on the onset of this flare in Oct.

I'm just feeling so discouraged, had so much hope for Uceris.

I don't know why your dr told to to stop the mesalamine. Uceris is just a bandaid to help you heal so your mesalamine can maintain. Uceris isn't a maintenance medication. You should be on maximum dosage of mesalamine (4.8 g/day) to obtain remission and only when you have a good solid remission should you taper to 2.4 g/day. Some people stay at 4.8 g/day permanently. You should also use rectal meds (suppository or enemas) up to 4g/day when flaring, tapering when in remission. Stopping the mesalamine completely is likely why you are seeing more blood
