My Calprotectin level is above 10,000

Just got my Calprotectin results.

The result is >10,000 (more than ten thousand micrograms per gram)

This flare is worse than the one before and before I had >2,000.

Mild UC, 1-2 watery stools a day.

I haven't been able to find post that people had such a high level.

I am stressed about this result... What were your levels?

Well, I know it can't be that bad... I haven't been able to find anything on the web about that kind of level.

The highest I could find is 8500 where some guy said that when his GI saw it, he almost fell out of a chair or something like that...

Yes, it was a stool test.

Do you mean the drugs that weaken stomach acid? No, I am not taking them.

at my top score in my signature it was just blood like 20~30 times a day.

I have had high results but i think the max I had was 1500. I also had it give me under 50 once when I was in a bad flare up. I have to wonder, if you retested, could you get that # again? They say it's pretty accurate for showing whether there is inflammation but from my experience, it's not consistent.

They don't show the exact number for some reason, they just show ">". During my first flare, half a year ago, my level was >2000. It says that under 50 is normal. Retested? Yea I could do that, but we will see what my GI says about this. Going there today.

No, I never have mucus or visible blood.

You are right for asking... I wrote that, I thought that these were standard things... the measurment unit is "ug/g", u should be 'micro'.

Well, I had upper abdomen troubles, heartburn once during the night, 2 months ago. I had some dull pain when eating more difficult to digest food. This entire flare started with upper abdomen pains, no intestinal cramps, then slowly the upper abdomen troubles either decreased or completely went away and cramps and UC kicked in.

Currently when having a BM, my entire stomach hurts. Not sure if this is normal. I also had some pain right of my bellybutton just a week ago.

Well, my GI panicked and told me this is serious. He wrote down that I should be hospitalized at their clinic (apparently the best place in the country for all kinds of diseases) because doing all the required tests and procedures requires a lot of time, but that they should be done in a short period of time. He told me that they need to do a colonoscopy again and a gastroscopy and who knows what kind of blood tests... I didn't remember it all.

This hospitalization isn't cheap, but can be paid by the insurance, though first, my request needs to be approved by a board, which they fully support and recommend (so this should make things easier to get their approval). Also, they don't have space yet. So until then, he told me to get hospitalized in the local hospital so that they can give me Prednisone infusion.

He also added Flagyl 400mg every 8 hours.

He told me about 4 times that I should take this VERY seriously.

No, they don't do it. I have to pay it out of my own pocket and take the sample to the lab.

I was thinking about it, I talked to my dad, who said that it's not required... although he has been recommending me that I should get hospitalized so that they can find the problem faster, instead of dragging this thing... I already lost 5kg in 4 weeks. There is urgency only once a day, but the stools are sometimes completely liquid.

I am not sure whether I want to be hospitalized or not. Even if it is a false positive. I mean they will solve the problem much faster, but then again all the procedures and wasted time, and also Prednisone infusion. Prednisone actually caused me heavy acne, not sure if the infusion type has the same side effects.

I am not sure whether to do a test again or go to the hospital and be treated quickly.

My GI told me he can't give me Imuran, for some reason... can't remember why. That it's complicated and that checking for the entire GI tract is recommended.

Collectively all of your numbers are high ESR,CRP, but 10000 calprotectin is very high i think you should re-test it to confirm the results and your GI should consider any other factors if the results are indeed correct, as 1~2 BM per day is very mild, i wouldn't judge my whole situation on a single test result if i were you.

Do you have any other symptoms like fever or RBC in stool ?

You are right, but they will probably do that first thing when I am hospitalized. I think it's best this way. Get it done much quicker and better.

It's not really just a single test, I had heartburn during the night about 2 months ago, I vomited because of it. Then I had stomach pain when eating meat, stomach pain that wouldn't go away for 6 hours... I couldn't sleep. I also vomited the entire day because I took Probiotics before sleep. I had pain to the right side of my belly button because I ate meat. All this happened over the course of a couple of months.

I sometimes feel nausea and lack of appetite. I had blood in my stool 3 times, which the GI says it's hemoroids because the blood comes last. I don't have strong urgency or strong pain, but the stool is VERY liquid. I also don't have blood or mucus. I am also getting sick every 2-3 weeks for the last couple of months, it's always some form of mild sickness that goes away after a couple of days.

All these symptoms are confusing and don't mean much together. So there is SOME problem definitely. Doesn't really have to be UC only.

I don't have fever and probably have hidden bleeding (just as I did before).

Just out of curiosity, cause of the test results..

My country is Serbia, but my ancestors came from Slovakia more than 200 years ago. I still speak the language of origin... as did every ancestor of mine.

I would go into hospital my friend, not waste time on forum - your numbers are way too high and your doc wants you to go. Please be sensible.
