Hi John,
I am on ssd for my stage 4 lung cancer that spread to my brain. Compassionate allowance.
Medicare does not kick in untill 2 years after you are approved for ssd benifits. You can use the benifits tool on the ssa website to find out how much, if approved, you would receive each month.
I have never had a problem with any doctors, hospitals, or imaging centers taking Medicare. It is an excellent program. I also have secondary insurance through my husbands union that pays for my Lialda.
It's pretty expensive being sick.
I just had my 3 year review from ssd and have been thrown off. Even metastatic cancers are considered improved enough if there hasn't been any new tumors, to be considered "cured" I have sent in a "reconsideration" because I hade another brain tumor treated in Sept. I think it was after there review period.
Most people I know that have been on long term disability are on because of some type of depression or panic attacks. Just like the groups of people in New York that just got busted.
