Help! The past three days I have had gas from hell. I think it might have to do with two big peanut butter and banana smoothies I had three days ago. How can I clear this up quickly?

Bananas and other fruits (and some dairy) give me gas, prob. from the fructose. I used to use oil of oregano either a drop or two in a glass of water or the capsules. None of the OTC "gas relievers" ever did squat for my UC gas.

Is this even a serious post? If you have Ulcerative Colitis, are barely taking any medication, and all you're doing is farting, count yourself lucky.

Just because someone's symptoms are less severe or perceived to be easier than other people's symptoms I think we need to be supportive either way.
Minimizing or not validating the experiences that someone is going through is hurtful.
Personally one of my worse things is bad gas because that is a symptom that is hard to hide (now I can't really pass gas...)

I hope you do well and get the gas under control ASAP

The guy (or woman, w/e) has had 25 FMT infusions, been on SCD for 6 months, is on Uceris and you imply that is 'barely' doing anything at all. The SCD alone is more than I'm prepared to do.

Also, trapped gas can be painful and unpleasant.

Gas is embarrassing, I'd rather have it than the blood and diarrhea but it also makes me want to stay away from people and makes it difficult to even be around my wife. (I'm a guy btw)

There are people here in all phases of recovery. I'm not in remission I can tell you that. Where I'm at now feels like a slippery slope. Any help is appreciated.

It's usually a symptom of flaring with mild inflammation. Most times, anything you eat will be deemed as guilty.

I'd suggest you add a rectal med to the mix...either mesalamine or steroid. Enema would be better than suppository.

Funny you mention that Quincy, I ordered an enema med from my doctor at his discretion last Thursday. He should be getting back to me soon.

Odd I didn't mention oral mesalamine. Are you considering to use that as well?

When I get bad gas for days that usually means c.diff for me but I also usually have diarrhea with the gas.

With all those FT's maybe you want to get a stool test. Every time I start to flare my GI writes me a script for stool samples.

Please don't misquote me to suit your argument. I said "barely taking any medication", not "barely doing anything at all". Gas ain't fun, but if this person is going once a day and that's his only problem, I'd bet 99% of the people here who are living daily with blood, mucous, urgency, and everything else would swap places in a heartbeat.

If it's gonna boil down to pedantics, I only quoted one word, 'barely'.

Personally I'd rather be on all the heavy-duty meds than follow the SCD and have 25 FMTs. If your implication was that the guy was taking the easy way out by "barely taking any medication", then I disagree.

As for symptoms, it's not really up to you to judge. There'll be people here who are worse off than you. Should you not post because you're "lucky" compared to them?

I have had gas from hell too and I've been in remission a several months now. I take gas-x pretty regularly and that helps a little. What has really made a huge difference is that I was recently diagnosed with silent acid reflux and the med for that (omeprazole) has diminished the gas to barely there.

ki-wi ... your responses make it sound like only people who are flaring badly should ask for help. It shouldn't matter how mild or severe symptoms are -- people should be able to come here and get support. At least I thought that was what this forum was for.

Martinco - Peanuts and peanut butter can be aggravators for a lot of people with UC. My brother-in-law and I both have waxed poetic on the painful gas caused by peanuts. I am just mentioning this because I would hate for you to give up your smoothies. Maybe banana chocolate smoothy next time :)

Dr Oz had a good show on gas relief awhile ago. I think he recommended fennel?
