Bloody diarrhea

Stared a small flare on around 11-25-15. Been taking 3.6gm
Lialda religiously. Started my stash generic rowasa and meanwhile had a backup supply ordered. I have never been able to hold more that 1/2 bottle at a time.
New enema scrip started 12-14. Same brand. Skipped enema 12-15 because I was going to start tapering off because no blood and 1-2 bms daily.12-16 used again but that day I started mild cramping. Kept using and kept getting much worse. By 12-19 unable to pass gass and the severe cramping kept me bedridden. 12-19 I was only able to hold the 1/2 does 1 hour and the next day felt much better. Until around 11am.
I have NEVER had cramping before. Told this all to the GI nurse? 12-21 and told her I think I was have a bad reaction to the new meds. She never heard of that before.

Long story short, she phoned back around 5pm and said she spoke with the doc and I am to add another lialda.
I stopped the enemas and the cramping is very mild now and eating seams to aggrevate the problem.
Does bloody diarrhea ever resolve on its own. Keeping hydrated for sure. Will be seeing doc at 3:30 on 12-31.

Lifelong vegetarian. The diets would be impossible for me.

I was practically sysmptom free until I tried the newer same brand enema. The 5 plus a day bloody d started about a day later.

I will be trying the extra Metamucil, I now take one dose daily.
Monday I will insist on speaking to the doc myself. This is a really different flare for me. No mucus, no gas. I thought it odd after stopping the enemas the bloody d did not get any better. Only the unrelenting cramping eased.
I have 2 canasa left and if the d relents I will try those.

When asked how much blood are you having? How the hell are you supposed to measure that?

The closest I have to probiotics is Bubbies saurkraut. Not much left but I don't think it is helping anyway. This is day one that I'm splitting my lialda dose to a.m. and p.m.

Again I thank you for helping me. I took your advice in the past and will always trust you in the future.

I won't be able to speak to anyone until Monday unless I go to emergency or something. I don't feel that bad yet.

I think the rectal meds made things much worse as I didn't have bloody d when I started this flare.
I will also ask for the stool test kit on Monday and hope things will start falling into place.
I want to avoid the steroid route as long as possible because of my history with cancer.
I'm happy I can rely on the kindness of others on a support group 'cause I have NO confidence in my docs office staff. After research on this site back in 2-14 I called to get a scrip for canasa. I had to interupt the nurse as she was instructing me to take them orally(?)

You are so kind! I am in Arl Hts by the way. I have to admit I was very suspicious of this nurse not knowing about the meds and wondered if she even correctly passed on the info about the severe cramping and diarrhea.
She was also unaware the one bottle of rowasa I had (the old scrip)was only one dose because she told me to continue with my old medication when I questioned the enema use.

This is my second GI doc and I will try to get things worked out with the doctor on Monday. I do think I developed an intolerance to the sulfite or something. I was going to post on how to get rid of the three boxes I have on hand 'cause I will not be using them.

I really hope I will not have to change docs again. I like my current one it is just the nurse, if she is one, is a bit dippy.

I should be more assertive with my treatment because I know this now. Like dealing with a child. She doesn't know any better.

Tried my last canasa and found it did calm the storm a bit. Christmas day got bold and took 1/2 enema.
Next morning, 2 firm and much less blood bms.
Phoned GI answering service to get on call doc to call in scrip for antispasmotic and substitute enema or supps for the severe cramps and bloody d.
12pm severe cramps as though I was hit by a train. As I did not get a call from the doc after 6 hours, I called to find they did not page the doc.

When I did speak with and explained my symptoms I was offered a choice of canasa or some cort supps. He told me it was my choice and there was no other substitute for the rowasa except canasa.

Two hours later cvs calls to tell me they won't have the supps till Monday after 3. I can have a partial of the antispas meds. Turned out to be 6 pills. I am feeling so much better after taking a couple doses. I am back to passing mostly bloody water.

In this process found the office will be closed on the day the nurse schelduled my doctors appointment.
I will call on Monday and find out why I couldn't get an earlier appointment if they were closed anyway. Sheesh!

Sorry q but I am without any doubt the enemas are the culprit making things worse. I was almost completely symptom free until I used the new scrip. The insane disabling cramps again started after I tried using after being off for nearly a week.
There are others that have posted rowasa made their symptoms much worse. It is an adverse side affect on the website.

The supps are the only thing the on call doc would prescribe. I asked about sfrowasa or another substitute enema and he said canasa was the substitute. This is a true story, don't be an enema sympathizer. 😅
I only had the severe cramps when I started them and they eased when I stopped. I could not lay on either side as the pain was so great. A heating pad was too heavy to have on my stomach while laying on my back. Bloated like a beachball and couldn't pass gas.

The antispas med is 20 mg dicyclomine. Took the first one at around 5:30 last night. I feel so much better but really not well. My husband has the shovel out and ready.

I waited to see if the additional Lialda was going to help and calm things down. Did not happen but continue the dose.
The other meds will be ready after 3 tomorrow. I was way too tired to call other cvs's to see if they had stock so thats how things sit.

Thank you for the great info. If not for you I would not know what to tell the docs what meds I should be on.
