Ulceritis Colitis

Hi,

My name is Divya. I have been diagnosed with Ulceritis Colitis. I was diagnosed last year in the month of March 2015. I have undergone Sigmoidoscopy two times . Earlier my condition was too worse. I was facing bloody stools and had to go to washroom 5 to 6 times a day. Now the condition is somewhat stable, no bloody stools. However, need to go to washroom anytime. Sometimes , the condition is okay, means I go to washroom just once in the morning, but sometimes its like 3 to 4 times, after every meal. Although I am taking purely homemade food , nothing junk at all, not even coffee, milk, carbonated drinks . I take tea only in the morning. I cannot go outside for long time anywhere not eat anything outside.

I am undergoing treatment from Chandigarh and the following medicines have been prescribed to me :
1. Mesocol(800mg). Twice a day.
2. Azoram(50mg), Twice a day.
3. Dulane(30mg), only one time before sleeping
4. Esomeprazole(40mg), one time early in the morning, empty stomach.


I am really worried as despite of undergoing treatment from the past 1 year, there has been no improvement. My major concern is that I cannot go anywhere nor eat anything, except home made food. Even if I try to eat Brown Bread and too after too many weeks, the next day I have to go to washroom many times in the morning. I would really appreciate if anyone can suggest me how can I deal with this problem.

The 1st 2 drugs are mainstream UC drugs. The 1st is mesalamine, and the second seems to be Azathioprine.

The third is an SSRI, which is more for anxiety and pain.

The 4th is a proton-pump inhibitor, like Nexium. It only reduces stomach acid.

You can take more mesalamine. upto 4.2 grams a day. You can also have a blood test to see if the AZA is working.

Many people can eat most foods, although some have to be eliminated during a flare, because the helpful gut microbes are out of wack. But your report of trouble with bread raises the issue of gluten sensitivity. You can get tested for Celiac disease, and you can try strict gluten elimination.
