Delzicol? Canasa? Newbie Questions

I was wondering if anyone has tried/ has had success with Delzicol? Its apparently new, and the next best thing? I just dont want to get my hopes up and it not work well. I was taking Lialda but my body couldn't process the thick enteric coating and I was pooping them out whole! shocked
Also, I scared about using the Canasa suppositories....do they hurt when insertion/ burn? and I just feel weird about sticking them in there...is there a right are wrong way. I feel dumb for asking that, but I've never used them before.

Personally delizicol didn't help me. I was also pooping out lialda full. Only thing that works for me is sulfasalazine. As for canasa, no it doesn't hurt. For me at least. You can use a lubricant if you'd like to make it go in easier.

Also don't forget every person reacts different to medicine, so it may or may not help you. Wish you luck.

I am pretty sure that delzicol (formerly asacol HD) has the same coating as Lialda, so not sure why they would switch you to one with the same coating
they are very similar drugs with different manufactures

something like Colazal or Dipentum might be good

and then there is Apriso and Pentasa but in my humble opinion those are better for patients with small bowel disease because they are released starting in the small bowel
for people who are colon specific than they may as well take one that is released mostly in the colon as they can get the most amount of drug possible.
although, if its fast transit times that are causing you to poop out the pills than somehting that starts its release earlier (like apriso or pentasa) might be a good idea

if you only have disease in left-sigmoid colon than an enema might be fine (although too many BMs will cause you too poop out the drug and it wont help much)

Delzicol is a little different from Lialda. I have taken both. Different of the 5-ASA meds work differently (some better, some worse) for each of us. So maybe delzicol will be the right thing for you! I hope so!

Canasa: the pointed end goes in first. A little lubricant on that tip will help. I find that if I have some inflammation at the bottom, they are a little uncomfortable going in, but that discomfort is gone after about 20 seconds and all is fine. I find them to be a great help!

This pill is a capsule...like it has a plastic coating that twists apart. I knew it was the same kind of drug but for some reason they think it will work...how effective is the remicade? I've seen that ALOT of people are in long term remission because of it. Is it an option that I can request?

Oh it could be that delzicol is not the same lialda.
Ehen it was just asacol it was. Lialda is the orange ish outside.

They are similar in color. The delzicol is just a capsule and the Lialda is more of a tablet.

Initially when I was diagnosed, I took asacol 3X3 and it kept me in remission for 2 years. Then I stopped taking and I flared so bad that I had to be on prednisone for 1 year and had to start 6mp along with Delzicol. So my first advice, if you can stay in remission with any 5ASA class of drug, please take them. They are the safest drugs.

All 5ASA drugs(Lila, Delzicol...)are delayed released that means they stay intact until they reach colon and releases medicine in colon so coating is meant to come out. Delzicol is orginial Asacol. Its not new drug. So try switching from one to another and see which one helps you most as they might release different amount of medicine in different part of colon or switch from mesalamine to sulfasalazine(like cozala) but with any of these medicine, last part of colon will get least amount so you are better off using Rowasa(mesalamine enema) or Canasa(mesalamine suppository) along with them.

Use some kind of lubrication before you use canasa. It slides easily. Hope this helps and wish you long remission.

That's what i hear from others on here and on youtube..lol.

My suggestion is to try another med with different coating....either pentasa or apriso. Take it with meals or shorthly afterward...that might help.
