vivomixx - vsl

BTW, vivomixx is much cheaper than vsl so if any of you doesn't have it refunded, i think it would be a cheaper option to order vivomixx from Europe

i've already done it but as usual they replied via google translator and the words and phrases which were repeated many times were "almost as good as", "virtually identical" "more or less" which suggests that it's not "The real McCoy". However at the end of the email they said "the product is identical as vsl". So that's why i was curious to know if in other countries vsl is sold separately from vivomixx, i was told that in Poland they would no longer have the "old" vsl. I'm quite angry although the difference in price is really considerable

If it helps any I found this statement under the Australian Crohns and Colitis Foundation:

'Probiotic VSL#3, which was discontinued from sale in Australia, is often asked about by CCA members. For those who have used VSL#3 to aid in the management of pouchitis or other symptoms in the past, it is now being distributed as Vivomixx by a Swiss pharmaceutical firm. It is of the same composition as the former VSL#3 and of the same price and is available through the same e-pharmacy that previously supplied VSL#3. You can find it at epharmacy.com.au.'

Something seems a little strange though.

This company seems to be the manufacturer. Someone could write to them directly and verify. The strange thing is they still show VSL3 under their product and no mention of the name change:

In any case if this is true it looks like it might effect a lot of people taking VSL#3 on here. Hopefully it is identical.

One thought is that maybe it came off-patent or something if there ever was one.

thanks for your replies :) they are quite mysterious about this new probiotic and in Czech Republic for instance it is still sold as the old vsl. The text which Mark has quoted says that the price is the same as vsl while in Poland it is really much cheaper than vsl and for the first time Pharmabest offers great discounts. As normally pharmaceutical companies are not very generous, it's quite suspicious. Ushipped - i was taking vsl for quite a long time and i think it was much better than others. However, after some time i think i got used to it and it could give me d. So I switched to Reuteri which started working better than vsl. Now i wanted to get back to vsl and got vivomixx instead which i feel doesn't agree with me as before. I also tried Probiotic 3 for a while but i had to discontinue it as it definitely doesn't like me :)

"Still taste like sh-t to me!" haha one man's food can be another man's poison, maybe i'm crazy (the majority of people hate vsl taste) but for me it's really mega delicious because it reminds me of burnt milk and i always have a craving for milk which i can't drink (:

as far as i've noticed, it differs slightly in "minor" additional things but the amount of bacteria theoretically remains the same. I personally feel the difference in taste so there must be some change. It makes me furious because vsl was great

so now it seems that Pharmabest is lying because they swear that vivomixx is absolutely the same as vsl and it is only "its new name for Europe". They even went as far as to tell me that customers get quickly bored with the same products over years so they've come up with some innovations :)

I did some research on the subject (kind of connected to my work).
My findings are as follows:
Original VSL#3 was invented by prof. De Simone - Italian doctor back in late 1990s.
Until 2013/2014 he was a part of the company selling the product thru different distributors across the world.
There was a shareholder disagreement at that time and as an outcome De Simone was left with the know-how and the formula and the other party were left holding the VSL#3 trademark.
De Simone set up a new company and started selling his original formula as Vivomixx (exactly the same as VSL#3 before the split up).
The other party stopped supplying the product as they had no know how and bacteria mix from Du Pont (De Simone had the exclusivity with Du Pont on the bacteria mix).
After some legal wrangling, De Simone was forced in some markets viz. US, UK and Italy to supply the raw materials to the other party. They used this to market the product under the VSL#3 name via Ferring in Europe and VSl in US. This has continued to Jan 2016 at which point De Simone was no longer obliged to supply the bacteria to his former partners.
As at now, Vivomixx is the only one with the original formulation, whereas VSL#3 may be still available until the stock lasts.
Now interesting development is, that the other party produced a 'new' VSL#3 with the new bacteria from a different source - bacteria list on the back of the box has different designation. It looks from the public affidavit linked here that the product is different as it has 100 times less S.thermophilus and Bifido as the original product and 3 times more of the dead bacteria! I do not know if the public is aware of that...?

Interestingly, in US the other party will not be able to sell the 'new' formulation under the VSL#3 brand as there the brand is connected with the original product. In US the only original formula is sold by De Simone under the new name Visbiome.

In Europe however the other party can sell the new 'formulation' under VSL#3 brand, in fact misleading the public as this has no connection to the original product bar the name.
I will stick to Vivomixx!

Hello so its the same or not ? i found a online store called 'natprod' it has the best prices for vivomixx but i dont know if its the same with vsl3
