Have you ever had an accident due to your uc symptoms Yes or No?

I'm now in remission but when uc was at its very worst it was a several times a month occurrence despite my best precautions. I had 4 accidents while driving, one in a grocery store, 2 at work, and a fair number at home. Curious as some long term posters have said they never have...

I had accidents, but fortunately only at home. Messed my undies a couple of times. A couple other times nearly made it to the toilet but ended up messing the linoleum floor. Easy if not pleasant cleanup. And then two incidents in the shower. Clogged the shower drain, poor husband had to plunge it clear. I need to remember how patient and understanding he was when the inevitable times arise that I get irritated with him!

I have had several especially when I had C. diff or when I was at the throes of my flare in april-june I was wearing depends 24/7

since my scope and prep last week I have had a couple accidents and a few near misses

it has only been with very loose stools. or with blood/mucous.

I have had many accidents in the two years I have been diagnosed with UC, most in the past year when my symptoms have gotten worse. By now I think I have had around 30+ (I stopped keeping track). Just had another yesterday.

Most have occurred outside of my home - I would say around 80% have been within a block or two of my home (am either walking my dog or walking back from nearby grocery store). The rest have been where I was quite far from home. The worst was early in my disease when I was at a club and had a major accident on the dance floor. Luckily it was dark and I ran out of there before anyone noticed - the walk home was awful. It put a whole different take on the meaning of walk of shame that night.

Id say half of the accidents there is not alot that comes out, its mostly blood and mucous and a little bit of stool. However, the rest have been massive accidents where a whole lot comes out ruining everything and being quite nasty

The accidents either happen because I physically cannot hold them despite however much I may clench my butt and/or the pain is too severe to just hold it in. What I have always wondered if whether there is anything else I could do to hold it in jsut a little bit longer and how much of it is mental. There have been so many times where literally it would have just been a minute or two before I would have made it to the bathroom.

Anyways, now I use diapers almost every time I go out - not 100% foolproof in terms of keeping my clothes clean (depends on the size of the accident), but it does make it a lot less likely people will know you had an accident (e.g. nothing dripping down your legs if you have shorts or completely discolored pants,e tc) as you are running back to your home. That gives me a ton of comfort (and has saved quite some money on buying new pants and boxers)

Thats my experience, sorry if its a little gross.

In the weeks leading up to my j pouch surgery I could't leave my house because every time I got in the car and drove somewhere I'd have an accident. Fun times.

Yes unfortunately. Mainly blood/mucus explosions. Once in bed. Once as kids couldn't get out of toilet fast enough so ran into back garden (oh the shame) and once at work but had actually made it into loo just not on the loo.
Never happened out and about really.

I consider myself lucky. I've had maybe only a couple accidents. Tho it was not full on, just little messes.

I am with Sherry. i've had some close calls and some sharts but never a full blown accident. I consider a shart an accident I suppose. I never had an accident that couldn't be solved by tossing my underwear.

Do that count as a yes? I think so...

before UC, i was strictly boxers - i soon switched to tighty whitys for the containment factor !

Just a teeny bit of enema stuff if I've waited too long before heading to the toilet and a split second before getting my pants down to sit...OR...if when I'm flaring, some of the enema/mucusy poo during urgency while running to the bathroom and not getting on the toilet fast enough.

While minor, and only about 10 times in all the years, I hate when it happens.
This doesn't include the few times I've farted when I forgot I had in a suppository. And it's only been at home as well.

I've never gone in my car or in public...yet.

I have had a few sharts along the way and 1 accident that was mainly bloody mucus, but not huge. I hate that feeling more than anything else. I cried for an hour after that 1 accident, it was 2 days after I was diagnosed.

I havent farted in a year (unless I am on a toilet). Never trust farts.

I'm quite surprised there aren't more no's. By accident, I don't mean I got a little mucus in my skivvies or I sharted, more like they're completely lost and beyond all possible hope of rinse/reuse lol. But yeah, equally embarrassing, non the less.

A moment of silence for all the underwear we've sacrificed in the noble pursuit of just trying to live normally. All I gotta say is [Expletive Deleted] UC :-)

I have not but came close a couple of times in the car. Before remicade, I always ran to the bathroom. I don't count the times I farted a suppository.

Thankfully never outside, just a couple of times in the house, and to be honest I thought I was just gonna fart!

(Now I know what it means to never trust a fart)

I was diagnosed in November 2014 and I've had a few accidents since then. Fortunately, I've been wearing adult diapers for a few years because I had prostate cancer and after the surgery, I drip urine. Nevertheless, the accidents are the worst part of this disease for me. I carry a "man purse" wherever I go and it has a clean diaper and some wet wipes in it. [It also has a .357 Mag. and ear protectors. I keep horses at a ranch south of Colorado Springs and we have a lot of vermin down there including the occasional rabid coyote. A handgun or rifle is an important piece of equipment. And, no, I'm not a rabid 2nd amendment militia type nor a guy who believes the zombies are gonna' attack. I am a retired trial lawyer and an avid hunter.] I've tried most of the meds for U.C. -- Lialda, Imuran, Simponi, and they don't do anything for me. I've also tried to kick the U.C. into remission with Prednisone and all that did is aggravate the hell out of my diabetes. People with diabetes or pre-diabetes should not take steroids. I learned that from a German doctor and my own doc didn't know that until my blood glucose shot up to over 500.

The best thing I've found to control the accident problem is Lomotil and/or Pepto Bismol and diet. My wife and I travel around the world a lot especially when our 10 year old grandson is not in school. We want him to see as much of the world as possible. There is always a bottle of Lomotil and a bottle of Pepto Bismol in my "Man Purse" when we travel. If you are ever in Colorado Springs and you see a guy with a "man purse" with a mountain lion foot print on it, and if you need a clean diaper, wet wipes, Lomotil, Pepto Bismol, or a gun, sing out and I'll provide you with whatever you need. By the way, the best adult diapers I have found are called, "Tranquility." My wife orders them for me over the internet and they seal tightly around your legs and they have a little "pocket" in them to catch your "accidents." They give you some level of confidence when you are out and about.

I've had around 4 or so. I've been lucky in that they've all occurred at home. I now keep depends around just in case because I feel like I get a hint from my body of today may be an accident day.

Yeah, well my toss away incident was at work so I couldn't possibly rinse/resue. I was lucky to finagle my underwear off in a stall without anyone noticing. I had to walk to the trash can carrying said undies hoping no one would enter and ask what I was holding. The things we deal with... I do however remember that exact pair of underwear and they weren't worth a moment of silence. I must have been apprehensive that day to wear such a broken down, old pair out of my home. It ended in my favor.

Last one was in September. I had been doing somewhat ok for about 6 weeks, finally off prednisone and thought Imuran was working a bit. I woke up that morning and had loose stool and figured I was about to begin flaring again. I had tickets to an all day music festival in Chicago and decided to go to the fest but told myself I would go back home right after the fest.

I had been drinking all day, dumb, I know and when the fest ended I went to a bar where one of my friends was working. When I got there I thought I should probably try to evacuate but the bars bathroom was not pretty.

I continued drinking and met a girl who I talked to for a few hours. Probably around 1am, it came on out of nowhere and I tried running to the bathroom, mid conversation with said girl. I crapped myself right before I got into the bathroom. I took my pants off and was trying to clean myself up but it was a big one. Luckily I was wearing boxer briefs so it somewhat contained it. A few people came into the bathroom, as there was no lock on the door, while I'm standing there pantsless and cleaning myself with one ply bar bathroom TP. I eventually left my underwear on the floor, put my shorts back on, snuck out the bathroom and out of the back door of the bar. I hailed a cab and went home. Ended up being like a half hour cab ride cause I was on the North side of Chicago going back to the South Side. I'm sure I probably smelled bad.

After I left I was getting texts from my friend who worked there, "dude, did you crap your pants?" "I'm no detective and all but....yup" then "I don't know how to deal with this"

The next day I called him, apologized and told him about my condition which he had no clue I had. I had been diagnosed just 9 months prior and told him that it is common with people with UC. He told me he felt bad for me and he would keep it between us. I haven't seen him since but will be seeing him in Colorado in a few weeks. I'm guessing we will probably have a few laughs over it.

I've since quit drinking completely and don't know if I ever will again.

Another one was at a friends wedding, pre diagnosis. I was an usher in the wedding. I had it together all day but after dinner, halfway thru the reception, I was heading to the bathroom and just didn't make it in time. I was wearing a rented tux. Once I got into the stall I took my pants and underwear off and put them in the toilet with my hands holding on to each by the corners, I then flushed the toilet a few times to clean them. I threw my underwear out and put the wet pants back on and returned to the wedding. I walked around for the rest of the night wearing toilet water wet pants, no one ever noticed a thing.

Yes I have. I had a bad one at a restaurant. It was on my way to the bathroom and it was a complete explosion. Agh I hope no one saw! I had another while shopping but it wasn't as bad. Luckily both times wearing black pants. There's been a couple tiny accidents but nothing to get embarrassed over like the others. But I think I don't have many because I never trust a fart. I don't think I've farted without being in the bathroom in a long time. I've been in a flare for 4 years without remission.
