Lialda...congested, sore knees, blurred vision

Hey all...since I have been on Lialda (about 3 weeks, 4/day) I have noticed my knees, especially my right one has this pulling sore feeling when I bend it and also I am congested . Nope not a cold I don't think. Just this nasty dark mucus comes out, not like a normal cold for me. HMM?! Plus, blurred vision. GAH!

THEN another thing is that when I get in the bathtub, notice some of my fingers toes are purple! It goes away quickly but could all this be side effect of the mild UC flare or Lialda or just both together.

AND I am literally DRAINED and feel so weak. My legs feel like rubberbands. GAH! Probably because I haven't exercised in almost a month. I am lucky to walk a tad bit faster now than Granny speed. LOL And nope, not anemic...been checked.

it's possible if you're sensitive to 5ASA medications. Your feet turning purple would be circulation, possibly related, but sounds vascular. Possibly Raynaud's....primary or secondary.

The dark mucus could be sinus infection....colours can range from brown to orange to yellow to green.
If you can get it checked and cultured, that would be the best thing before assuming it's mesalamine related.

The drained feeling...do you have chronic fatigue or fibro?

Have you had vitamin D and B vitamins checked? because all can contribute to fatigue, pain, vascular issues.

Have you seen a rheumatologist or neurologist?

I started Lialda a couple of weeks ago and I have also noticed, sore knees and ankles, and my gums just above or below some of my teeth have blue stains on them. I also, got a stuffy nose and a bit of a cold. I am wondering if these are side effects of the Lialda after reading your post, Taben. I am going to research this and get back to you.

I have some of these less severe symptoms, however, it doesn't mention blurred vision which I also have or the blue stains around my gums of my teeth. I am going to research further.

I found the bluing effect, fatigue, muscle weakness, and more. I also have swelling of my stomach, anxiety, back pain, unusually tired, shortness of breath, and chills. I think I will call my doctor about these symptoms, this doesn't sound normal and I am kind of concerned with some of the more severe side effects.

NOELHELP----TU so much for you research. I see I am not alone. I too, just feel so weak and now my lower calves down to my feet feel TIGHT, slightly swollen. I was on the necessary evil PREDNISONE for the first flare up which was the worse I have had so far. I did get swollen lower extremities because of that drug.....this is weird. I wasn't on Lialda then, that was back in 2005-2006. I think I will give my doctor a call as well.

Again, thank you for your research. Hope you feel better. This really SUCKS! But we will get through it. :-)
