anti-spasmodic meds for bladder

My doctor has prescribed me an anti-spasmodic for overactive bladder. I've had blood, urine and prostate tests which all came back normal. He's equated the bladder symptoms with some high stress I've been under lately.

The meds seem to be working quite well. I know some people on here use similar for colon spasms. I'm just wondering whether anti-spasmodic meds can be used long term? Any noticeable side effects?

I'm not keen about adding another med but I have been stressing out a little about my bladder lately and just don't want to risk any stress affecting my UC which has been so good now for 3 years.

usually it's given for overactive bladder. The active is Solifenacin (side effects can be dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, dry eyes, dry skin). May actually help your colitis if you experience runny stools. Many antispasmodics like hyoscine help with abdominal cramps. But these can also cause similar side effects to the above. But yes, solifenacin can be used long term, so long as you don't have any cardiac issues or any form of bowel obstruction.

cheers for that. he did actually prescribe it for overactive bladder. just wondering if by chance the spasms were being induced by an enlarged prostate or an infection would the drug still work to quieten the bladder?
