Hi everybody. So I'm currently in a moderate flare and started Uceris on Wednesday after meeting with my gastro last week. I'm sure there are many here who have tried it, and I was wondering if you can give me some feedback as to how long it took for you to notice any positive results?

I ( like so many others ) was excited to hear of the low steroid side effects reported, and am really hoping this will be a viable med for me. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I am on it for the first time. I am about to finish up Week 6 of an 8 week course.

It took me a week or 10 days to notice results, but I have definitely had positive results, and I have not had moon face, weight gain, mood swings, etc.

I have, however, developed oral thrush. That started as just a bad taste in my mouth after about Week 4. It took me 2 weeks to figure out it was thrush and not just a bad taste! (I am swishing/gargling with cider vinegar several times a day and that seems to be helping.)

But, other than the thrush, I have been very impressed with Uceris. I hope it does well for you also!

I finished up a 2 month course of Uceris about 3 weeks ago. Got rid of my blood in about 2 days. To get rid of the flare took about the full 2 months. Works much slower than prednisone. I had lots of bad cramping (which I get with every flare) and that took awhile to subside. If your flare is not that bad this is a good choice. If you need immediate results this may not do the trick.

I got headaches, dry mouth and increased night sweating on it. Nothing I couldn't tolerate.

I like it. Slower than pred, but no side effects for me. Maybe slightly dry mouth.

Thanks all for the replies...... Sounds pretty positive to me even it if takes a bit longer. Worth it if the dreaded pred side effects can be largely avoided.

The first time I took it, I was having a mild/moderate flare up and it worked great! It wasn't an overnight success like prednisone, but it worked, and I didn't have terrible side effects. I was thankful for that. When I stopped it, my flare came back full force. This time it progressed over time to more moderate/severe level. I took uceris again without a ton of relief. I was better than I would have been without it, but I was still in a flare up.

I've been diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis and have been in a full flare up (daily bleeding) since Nov. 2015. I am currently taking Lialda (4 pills at once, daily). I've been prescribed the Uceris foam but my ins. keeps denying it. Finally they approved the pill form of Uceris and I can pick it up from the pharmacy tomorrow to begin treatment. Has anyone had better experience with the foam vs the pills? Since my disease is just the lower portion of my colon (sigmoid area) I almost hate the thought of the pill form and wonder if I should hold out for the foam approval and try contacting my insurance company? The foam was just released on the market per my GI Dr. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Please start your own post to get more responses. I believe i've only seen one or two users taking uceris foam, but you may have better luck if you start something mentioning the foam in the topic.

It took me 3 days and I noticed a difference with Uceris.

Uceris works well for me. It pulls me out of the worst symptoms of a flare within a few days. It then continues to slowly help. It's no silver bullet. As an example, it pulled me out of a flare recently and, while still on it, I ate like everything was totally OK and I fell back into a mild flare. However, it started healing back up pretty quickly :-)

Just going to give this thread a bump with an update on my Uceris experience...... Unfortunately, and quite sadly, I had to discontinue Uceris after 6 days. For whatever reason ( I suspect low stomach acid and / or unusual PH in my small / large intestine ) it did not work as advertised and I developed extreme pain in my lower abdominal area, intense corticosteroid side effects, and derived zero benefit ( it seemed to make things 5x worse ). I was really hoping ( and praying ) that this would work for me but it didn't. Back to the good ole prednisone ( 40mg start with 5mg taper every 7 days ) for this flare. It's day 2 of the taper and I of course feel better now but I know what's coming. Thanks again to everybody who contributed on this one.

Gosh, T_HO - I am sorry! The Uceris seems to be doing fine for me. I have had increased gas and yesterday some low abdomen pain (I am in week 7 now) but I am pretty sure that was from bad decisions in my diet - Easter goodies. today seems fine.

One big frustration about this disease is how different we all are and how differently we react to meds and remedies! I hope the pred really kicks it for you. Best wishes.

Uceris worked well for me for about 2 years, then I flared. BTW, it is a steroid.
