No support for colonoscopy

My next scope is overdue and I have no support. I don't have a driver and I don't know how I'll do it. If it comes down to it I will have to do it without any sedation and I've never done this before. I need help

Where I live, they won't let you take a cab...you could contact your local community center or ask the hospital/clinic if they are aware of a volunteer program for situations like this, where someone volunteers to drive you to and from. At the hospital I go to, they ask to see the person that drives you to prove you've got a legit ride (no, public transit allowed).

I will call a local private home health care agency and request the service of a home health aide. They usually charge any where from $20/hr and above. I think this is the best option.

Any chance your doc could use Propofol for sedation? Some docs don't require a driver after a scope if they use that.

Mine hospital won't let me take a cab either. they call your driver before you get sedated... I hope your husband can give you a ride home. If you can't depend on someone for that, what can you depend on them for? I haven't talked to you in a long time. I miss you!

To the person who posted that Propofol does not require an escort-- that is a general, knock-out anesthetic which requires escort pick-up of patient post-procedure at any RELIABLE clinic in U.S. Andrina, do you know any college students or have a college in your area to contact about student employment? I have found them to be good escorts, as they are quick to understand the process involved, & used to doing odd jobs at off-times that fit into their class schedules. / Old Hat (35 yrs with left-sided UC; presently in remission taking brandname Colazal)

If you have any civic organizations such as a Cosmopolitan Club, American Legion, Shriners or others...most will help with providing a driver or transportation. Contact your hospital and ask patient services about their volunteers. Good luck and I hope you get a great result from your test.

You would not be able to drive after given propofol. I'm a nurse anesthetist and had propofol only in Jan. for my colonoscopy. I've always had versed, fentanyl and propofol for my previous scopes. I was no less impaired after propofol and there is no way I could have driven. It took the rest of the day to recover. I would consider looking at care.com

I stand corrected on the Propofol thing. My doc made me have a driver when he used it for my scope, but someone who worked at the endoscopy center told me that some ppl do drive after a light sedation of Propofol. I've also read online that some people who work in the healthcare field even go back to work 2-3 hours after having Propofol.

I felt wide awake after mine, but I personally wouldn't try to drive.

They use propofol and they require a driver. His work schedule is so unpredictable that even he doesn't know when he gets called in or not.

Thank you for your advice about students and other organizations who could help. I need to call my doc maybe he has resources already.

I've been sick with a 101.3 fever and I wasn't able to get around anything.

I'm located in Salt Lake by the way.

My endoscopy center insists that your driver be present throughout the procedure. Apparently they've had drivers drop off and run.
