Very Confused

Long story short:
2001 Had surgery (Colon resection) due to severe Diverticulitis. I elected to do this rather then suffer from repeated issues.

3 months later developed an abdominal adhesion from above surgery.
Back into OR for that surgery.

about 3 to 4 months after this I developed UC. Had my initial flare, took me about 6 months and got into remission (I think).

Every since then I have had "issues", mainly constipation. Find it very hard to have a BM. about once a year I need to "Colon Cleanse". This usually gets me back on track for a while. My last 3 scopes have been perfect.

Right now back to constipation and NO appetite. Losing weight.
Just can't, don't want to eat.

I take 3 Tablets a day of Colozal for maintenance.
That's 3 a DAY, not 3 3x a day.

Last time I went to my GI with this issue he did a colonoscopy, found nothing.

Anyone else deal with this or have some advice?

ETA: I take stool softeners and Meta Mucal to help but still very hard to have BM.

Definitely get on rectal meds....start with mesalamine retention enemas, or at the very least try suppositories.

Meta Mucal.....I assume you mean metamuci....what form are you using, and when are you taking it?

Hi...sounds good when you're taking it, so that will help regarding what it's supposed to do.

While your past surgery may have some play in the constipation, (I'm assuming your diverticulitis was in the sigmoid area?), I tend to believe it's more rectally related since its signals tend to slow down the colon when it's being fussy or out of sorts. That would include stress causing IBS or very mild inflammation within the rectum if you're in the beginning of a flare (or at the tail end of one), or even if you have severe inflammation but very limited to the first part of the rectum.

Since you don't mention severe inflammation, I'll go with the mild inflammation and suggest you request rectal meds.

Since you've been here since 2008, I'm sure a few of us have mentioned that to you many times. Have you discussed it with your GI as of yet and have you tried them?
