I have now destroyed son #2

The only saving grace is he looks like his mother, and here colon is pristine when she was
scoped at 65.
My problem is I cant cure myself, nor could I save my #1 sons colon.
Another stupid problem is the gi doc he could get an appointment with is not in network
which might delay,but a lot of others in a big gi group are, he is out in the stateline Nevada area,
big gi group out of reno carson city and office in Gardnerville nv.

I am so pi$$ed I am having a VO, now and it is 3pm.
This will probably send me into a giant flare myself, I do not want him to loose the colon.
I can see a trip to Lake Tahoe, Reno in the near future, dam I hate to fly.
You ever see anyone hope someone has c diff, or ecoli 0157, that's me right now.
Dam,dam,dam.

And oh by the way he had a rectal abscess of which he got under control about 10 years ago,

see my theory on autovaccination with gut bugs.

Of course my genetics I guess are the problem, but I am still not 100% sure this disease

is not contagious. Probably 99.5% but not 100%

He also in the last few months has cut back on smoking, which I think kicked it off, I had

him start again but seems to not be saving his gut.

He also had the flu and a double ear infection, but this was probably after the UC symptoms started.

So he also had a round of amox.

This is insane, and I am out of VO, but have lots of gin.

Who's to say he'll have a colectomy too. See what the gi will say first. Then go from there. All this worrying doesn't do you any good.

So sorry Old Mike! I know how you feel, my daughter and my son and my grandbaby are all suffering with bowel issues (my mom had UC, I have Crohn's colitis and IBS) so far my daughter's (26 years old) scopes have all concluded IBS since she was 15 yrs old my son (23 years old) is in the long process of being tested for his "issues". My grandbaby (3 yrs old) hasn't had a normal bm since the day she was born. It's beyond heartbreaking, the only thing that keeps me from completely losing my sanity over their GI issues is that they are learning so much more now, slow, but at least there's a glimmer of hope that they won't all suffer with their gut issues as I have for the last 25 years of my life now.

Hang in there, it took me a long time to realize that I cannot control anything in this life, it sadly is what it is, thank god it's not forever but still, knowing how crappy it is to have a poor quality of life and nasty daily, weekly, monthly and so on gut issues being so intrusive in ones life is painful to say the least so I put hope that they're soon on the verge of figuring out both IBD and IBS so others don't have to suffer endlessly like many of us have been.

That's the worst. I am so sorry that he's potentially dealing with IBD and that you're feeling the way you are. How old is he? I don't think you should say you've "destroyed"... IBD is difficult, but many people have easy to manage IBD. Plus, it's very possible he doesn't have IBD. I am going to hope for the best. You know, I got IBD somehow, I am sure someone in my family has it and never fessed up, but regardless, with everything I've been through, it's not the IBD that destroyed me, it was them being awful people in general. haha. I am sure your son loves you very much, respects you and has learned countless incredible lessons from you. You're a wonderful, kindhearted person, and that is something he will have throughout life, with or without IBD.

Please allow me to beat myself up for awhile.

It is my way of getting into patient advocate mode.

Believe me when other son was in the hospital for like 3 weeks I saw all kinds of

stuff that should not happen. I was there just about 24/7,did a lot of walking around at

3 in the morning also.

Then there was his regular local gi, who gave up after cyclosporine failed and basically

sent him home to die.

The disease is too serious to be left to docs, and the medical system, without some form

of oversight, or massive *****ing and complaining if something is not done right.

I admit I am no doc, but I do know enough,to figure out if and when there is a screw up.

Its one thing to manage myself with this disease and I still have a colon.
Its another so have your kids loose major body parts.
The reason I worry is that the standard meds failed on son #1,so j-pouch.
I just don't want this to happen to son #2, if he can get it under full control without
biologics, then I can calm down some.
Then there are the grandkids to think about.

Lets see I have a good selection of beer,wine,gin, tequila and rum.
Better go easy, stick with rum.

Lets see a 8 hour trip by air, hard to get to reno/Tahoe, or drive almost 3000miles.
Or fly to sacramento then drive.
When if it comes to that.

These are just random thought popping into my head.

Well I was hoping I could control his colon with more smoking but not to be I guess.
Son #1 38 has my grandson and one the way, wont know the flavor until Friday.
Son #2 37 single, avid skier, weight lifter, restaurant owner.


Oh I have accepted it, but I sure don't have to like it.
They have totally different personalities too, beside physical looks.

Mark: Good idea, I have told him about c diff and such, but will make a short list.
I don't think they would give meds first without scope of some kind.
All I had was rigid scope back in the day.
They have to check first otherwise open to law suits, I might guess if give meds for the
wrong condition.
Really need to check stool heck Giardia can have UC like symptoms.

Feel your pain Old Mike...

I know it is hard- but try not to conclude his is like yours or your elder son. Because everything changed and advanced a lot after that. Above all - your wealth of knowledge dealing with these can help him to tame this in all possible ways.

I still remember how much I prayed DD' s was c.diff.

Hope and pray he address this with all seriousness and make possible adjustments to control the symptoms while waiting for diagnosis.

Mike, I am so sorry to hear about your son. Life is a gamble and we never know what we will pass on to our children. My husband has crazy high cholesterol which he inherited from his father, but he doesn't blame his dad. Every time my kids have tummy issues I panic and worry about them getting IBD. I can totally empathize with you right now, but as Mark suggested, use your frustration and anger to help him rather than beat yourself up. I will keep my fingers crossed that he has a nasty case of c-diff and nothing more.

I'm sorry to hear your son might be having such issues. I fear for my children too (my mother had Crohns and I have UC). But would I blame myself if I passed onto them? No because family health lines are not guaranteed and it is what it is. But if in the event they do get something, at least they have me in their corner to help them and advise them.

You have to relax because your son might need your UC knowledge to help him out. Heck, you've probably read more articles and studies than most doctors.

I'd say step back for a second, forget all the super-detailed studies you've read, and simply recall the basics.

If he has UC, then the top medicine to try first will likely be a mesalamine enema. Maybe with a little steroid added in there too. Then from there just make sure you honestly thoroughly give mesalamine its fair shot before moving on to other meds (and that's assuming it even gets to that point).
