Pregnancy & UC

My understanding is there is a 30/30/30 statistic. 30% will stay the same, 30% will get better and 30% will flare. Hopefully some experienced uc moms will comment as well. Have you spoken with your GI doc about it? Maybe it would make you more comfortable to have a plan in place with him/her should you begin to have problems.

My personal unscientific advice is to have your children now if your uc is well controlled and you and your fiancé are both ready. I didn't get baby fever until a few years ago and I'm now 43. I've had uc and uc related health issues over the last 2 years and have decided for myself not to take the risk of having a baby at my age with my medical history.

My first pregnancy happened during a flare...was recommended that I wait until it was over...whoops! Hospital admission when I was 8 weeks pregnant, prednisone, then fine for remainder. Flared again about a year later. My second pregnancy was totally fine. No issues, no flare before, during or after! My trigger is stress, so it makes sense after the first one to flare....after my second, I knew what to expect, so wasn't as stressful! I had scheduled c-section for my second though, just to prevent any damage downtown. Good luck!!
