Here we go, Remicade!

I just got a call from the infusion center and am now set to start Remicade next Friday (3 weeks before my scheduled c section date with NOW our one and only baby).

So I will have a dose next Friday and then again the week before the csection. Hope I don't go early!!! The next one won't be until 2 weeks after the csection.

I am so pissed that I have to start this now...not how I wanted to start motherhood. I feel hijacked. Even though the prednisone seems to finally be helping me, I know that I need to get on something more long term that will keep me out of a flare for more than a few months at a time.

Wish me luck that this doesn't send me into labor early! I still need to get this house ready!

Good luck. The remicade infusion is about 3 hours. They'll weigh you as remicade is weight-based dosage. Premeditations are some form of antihistamine (usually claritin or benadryl) and Tylenol, which can be skipped but are recommended. It's boring, so bring entertainment: a book, ipad, headphones and music, etc. The nurse will set the IV, mix you medications and start the drip. She'll check on you periodically and get your temperature and pulse. They put a bandaid on and send you on the way. I always drive home, myself.

I don't think the remicade will put you in early labor (taking it will probably help so that you can reduce steroids and put on weight)

Thanks!! I was told that the steroids would indeed start being reduced more after the loading doses. Have to admit that getting off of pred was a major motivator here :-).

I think you're going to be happy you did this. You need a break from the awful UC symptoms.

BEST of luck to you! Remicade certainly has helped me have a life. Good luck bringing your new little life into yours. ipoop told you right...take a book..or something with you. I usually start reading and fall asleep between the 15 minute temp, pulse, checks. Feel better soon!!

Best of luck worriedgirl!! Hope the Remi does the trick for you and you can get some peace and get the house ready. Things will be quite hectic after baby comes so hopefully the Remi will put you in remission and you can enjoy the craziness that comes with the new baby. Please keep us posted on how things are going. We are all rooting for you!

I hope this works for you! Having a baby is such a life changing moment and anything you can do to kick this flare in the butt will he good. Sorry you had to go there, but good luck!

Good luck! There's one woman on the Polish uc forum who gave birth to two healthy boys and she was on Remicade twice throughout her entire two pregnancies. Now she's in remission :)

I really cannot thank you all enough for the positive vibes, advice, and success stories! I'm feeling much more confident about starting Remicade!

My first appointment is next Friday. Then, I'll have a week off before my next one. I hear that it's once a month after that. I'm bringing the husband to my first one just in case...and lots of iPad etc action. Sounds like a long three hours!

I usually nap during my infusion, and read if I'm awake. For me, it's a very relaxing time.
